Our young friend, O. E. Ringland, em

will take peculiar pleasure in waiting on
his old friends.
An Aspiring Simpleton.
The silly pedant, who contributes
“Atlanta letters” to the Savannah New,
over the signature "Ogeechee,” seems
to have recoveied from the lashing re
cently given him by the Griffin press,
and points his slanderous pasquins at us.
Ignoring the amenities of the profession,
to misrepresent and to blackguard, the
creature deservea and receives at our
hands, no further notice than a passing
wlbh for his amendment and a casual
suggestion of our contempt.
Detective Pinkerton’s i.ast Case.—
The well known and vigilant moral guar
dian, Allan Pinkerton, spiea out “cases”
as quickly and as correctly as the lynx-
ayed fraternity, of which be i* the ac
knowledged head and king. He is as
keen at detecting true merit as he is
criminality, and he ha* now made a
strong point, professionally, in the case
ot the Herring safe. Eight of Pinker
ton’s safes went into the fiery ordeal at
Chicago, hut only tioo came out, and
these two were Herring's/the other six,
(not Herring’s) were buroed| to ashes:
therefore, Pinkerton may well say : 1

these parts, from scrofulous affection*,
and from severe use of the voice. The
irritation from this latter cause com
■aences in the larynx and grotlis, which
are the organs of the voice, and extend
ing downward*, produces hoarseness,
coughing and spitting mucous matter,
sometimes mixed with blood. It is
chiefly dangerous from its tendency to
spread into the longs, and teruiina'e in
consumption. It is in the cure of severe
and obstinate cases of this disease that
Dr. Pierce’* Golden Medical Discovery
has achieved unparallelod success, and
won the loudest praise from all who have
used it. It is sold by all respectable
druggists.
The Harvest of the Head.—When the
comb aet* as a rake, bringing away a
roll of parted fibers every time it passe*
through the hair, baldness would soon
he inevitable. But even in this case,
forlorn as it may seem the mischief can
be arrested, the loss repaired. Lyon’*
Kathairon. aided by a brisk application
of the brush to promote the absorption of
the fluid by ihe scalp, will stop the thin
ning-ont process in forty-eight hours.
The roots from which the dead filaments
were shed will soon be re-endowed with
vitality, and a new growth will speedily
spring up on the denuded places. This
work of reproduction will go on until the
damage is completely repaired, and the
luxuriant crop of hair thus produced will
never wither or fall oat as long as the
vitalizing application is regularly con
tinued. rp It
The True Grounds of Confidence.—
Whence co nes that firm reliance, that
absolute, undoubting faith in the effica
cy of Hostetler’s Stomach Bitters as a
remedy for indigestion, biiious disorders,
intermittent and remittent fevers, which
notoriously prevail in all parts of the
United States? This confidence has
been growing for twenty years, and it is
still extending. It is not the result of
credulity ; it has not been engendered
by any human device, but is the spon
taneous and natural consequence of ex
perience. What people see daily going
on under their own eyes they cannot
question. When families in unhealthy
districts that resort to this wholesome
vegetable tonic, as a preventive, escape
periodical fevers, and their immediate
neighbors, who neglect this precaution,
are prostrated by the disease, how is it
possible that the phenomenon should be
without its lesson ? In like manner when
it is seen that obstinate cases ot dyspep
sia, of liver complaint, of constipation, of
nervou* weakness, and of general debil
ity, yield to the operation of the famous
remedy, how can even incredulity itself
withhold its endorsement? Eye-wit
nesses of the salutary effects of the Bit
ters are to be found in every civilized
settlement on this continent. The thou
■ands opon thousands who owe their
restoration to health and strength, or
their preservation from sickness, to its
extraordinary medicinal properties, are
enthusiastic in it* praise. The multi
tudes who recommend it in a neighbor
ly way to their friends and acquaint
ances, as well as those who make public
their estimate of its viitues, are always
ready to state their reasons for the faith
that is in them. They have all felt or
witnessed its benificeut operations.

SPECIAL NOTICES.
The Cause of Temperance finds some of
its most insidious and dangerous foes in
the many so-called “tonics,” and “appe
tizers,” made of cheap whisky and refuse
liquors, finished up to suit depraved ap
petites, under the name of medicines.
Dr. Walker's California Vinegar Bitters
are none of these, i hey are not a bev
erage, but a genuine medicine, purely
vegetable, prepared from California
herbs by a regular physician. For all
diseases of the stomach, liver, kidneys,
bladder, skin and blood, they are an in
fallible and unrivalled remedy.

Hoic We Used to he Physicked.—Who i
does not remember the time when spring
purgation was considered indispensable
to summer health ? No matter for wry
faces, the inevitable salts and senna,
rhubarb or calomel and jalap, must be
administered. These “spring medicines,”
the youngsters were told, were to keep
them hale and hearty during the sum
mer. We all know now that this was a
falacy; that new vigor, not depletion, is
what is required at the commencement
of the summer solstice. As a prepara
tion for the enervating effects of op
pressive summer weather, a course of
Hostetler’s Stomach Bitters is highly
expedient. This famous vegetable prep
aration has three prominent properties:
It renovates, purifies, and regulates all
the functions of the body. It is com
posed exclusively of pure vegetable pro-
ductions, viz : the essential principle of
Monongahela Rye, and the most effica
cious tonic and alterative roots, barks,
and gums known to medical botanists.
Hence, it is an absolutely safe medicine,
and no tincture of the Pharmacopoeia can
compare with it either in purity, or in
the variety of its objects, and its com
prehensive results. Happily for man
kind, the theory that it was necessary to
prostrate a patient in order to cure him,
is forever exploded, and the true philo
sophical doctrine, that vigor is the great
antagonist of disease, has taken its place
Hostetter’s Bitters is an mvigorant, and
hence it is the proper medicine for the
feeble at this most trying season of the
year.

SPECIAL NOTICES.
A NEW BEAUTIFYING AGENT.—All
Dentifrices had their drawbacks, until the Sa
lubrious Bark of the Soap Tree was brought
from the Chilian Valleys to perfect the fragrant
Sozodont, the most delightful article for the
teeth that a brush was ever dipped into.
“CHILDREN’S LIVES SAVED FOR 50
CENTS.”—Every class of Croup can be cured
when first taken, by Dr, Tobias’ Venetian Lin
iment, warrauted for 24 years, and never a bot
tle returned. I: also cures Diarrhoea, Dysen
tery, Colic, Sore Throat, Cuts, Burns, and Ex

VENUS herself would not have been beauti
ful it her complexion had been bad. If beauty
is skin deep, it is necessary to secure and re
tain that part of it; and ladies, inst ad of re
sorting to paints add powders, should remem
ber that au impure, blotchy, or sallow skin is
the proof of feeble digestion, or torpid liver, or
vitiated blood, for all which Dr. Walker’*
California Vikesar Bitters is a safe, sure
and effectual remedy.
BURNETT’S COCOAINE.—No oils, neith
er pomades or alcoholic washes—foreign or do
mestic—can compare with Cocoaiiu as a 11 AIR
DRESSING. It anchors the hair firmly in the
scalp—gives it new life and lustre—and ren
ders it the “crowning glory” of both sexes,,
old and young. t
PRATT’S ASTRAL OIL.—More accidents /
occur from using unsate oils, than from steam
boats and railroads combined. Over 200,000
families continue to burn Pratt’s Astral Oil,
and uo accident* directly er indirectly have oc
curred from burning, storing or handling it.—
