For the Recorder,
Bog Law.
Tlie imperative need for protection
to sheep and other livestock, against
the worthless curs, that troup the
country, has been urged for many
years, without dispute. The difi-
cully of adapting the remedy to the
evil seems to have interfered to
prevent Legislative action, as yet.
That the evil has been greatly mag
nified in these latter days, will be
generally admitted. How can the
case be reached, and the canine
nuisance be abated ? I suggest
something of this sort, for the con-'
sideration of the assembled wisdom!
Let some officer indicated, be

SPlC'AL NOTICE?.
OBITUARY,
On the 25th ult.. a youth of scarce fifteen j
sUTimers. left the home of his widowed mother j
in Milledgeville at the morning hour for school,
apparently in hie usual health. The morning !
at school passed with him as usual. Ho was j
both apt and diligent in his studies. The '
time of noon return from school came, and as |
was his custom, he stopped on the way home j
at the Store of bis brother, Mr. Otto Miiler. ;
In a few moments be f*d ! , under what wa3 sup- j
posed to be an attack of Apoplexy, and sud- *
deniy as when a sliong young man falls in j
battle, Theodore Miller breathed out his j
soul. Instead of returning home to dinner as J
was his wont, he was borne to tlie home of j
his heart stricken mother, a corpse- i
Many hearts unite ia sympathy with the j
bereaved mother and bereaved family, over-1

The loveliness of the character of the gentle j
boy, taken away with such a startling sud i
doer, lor whose mischief his owner deness, again justifies the saying, that -death

shall respond in double damages,
collectible by criminal process.
Theodore was full of thoughtful care and
kindness towards his mother, and in the fami

Gen. D. H. Hill—“Bethel” Hill,
of war memory—in the Southern
Home, of which he is editor, pre
sents a strong article to show that the
people of the South, in their enthu
siasm for Horace Greeley, are not
guided by policy simply, but by
principle.” We quote the following
striking paragraphs from his arti
cle :
We do not take Mr. Greeley
therefore from policy ; but from prin
ciple. We take him because he is
with us in all the essential princi
ples which are involved in the Pres
idential contest. He is opposed to
carpetbagistn. He is opposed to
military rule and the persecution of
the people. He is opposed to the
thievish rings which bankrupt the
masses to enrich the rogues. He is
opposed to extravagance in admin
istering the government and high
taxes upon the people. He is op
posed to two terms in the Piesiden-
tial office—the first term being em
ployed in bribing the way with stol
en money for a second term. He is
opposed to squandering the public
domain upon the swindlers who
bribe the President and Congress to
pass iniquitous Rail Road bills. He
is opposed to putting incompeter.ts
into office, even should they be kin
to the President. He is opposed to
making a Poland of the feoulh, and
in favor of winning our people by
ihe law of kindness. In brief, on
all the living issues of the hour, Mr.
Greeley and the South are }n perfect
accord. Hts platform and his letter
embrace ail for which we can now
contend. ft is because of this
agreement in principle that we ac-
spectful.aud correct in deportment as a schol

reputation through the community was that

Spring a small piece of ground in mis ionary

touchingly testified to by the luxuriant and
healthy growth of the Missionary corn which
his own hands planted and cultivated.
We are warranted in hoping that the mark- j

exhibited was the result of a secret work of j

in his soul preparatory to his sudden and early
