General Agency of the MATTER MANUFACTORIES. NOW that the amount of Ammonia iu Peruvian &uuno has decreased to such an extent a§ to make it too dear a source ofthat article for the intelligent Manufacture of Fertilizers, the discovery of a relia ble substitute is a great, desideratum, the Manufa turers of Ammoniacal Matter (protected by Letters Patent granted to Amor Smith) take pleasure in offering this article, not as equa’ly good, but for manv reas ins superior. It is not a volatile salt but is in the form of nitrogen, the Ammonia being formed in the soil, thus having all the advantages to be gained from Barn Yard Manure, in a very concentrated form, the fermentation of Ammoniacal Matter in the soil gradually mv»v*>r»ts tb<- great. Jn«« of Ammonia as in Peruvian Guano, whilst the gases thus evolved not only assist in the decomposition of vegetable matter and the Phosphates in the soil, but in solution with the rain are active feeding agents o the plant, conveying the food direct to the rootlets of the plants. For these reasons, and the factof the article being devoid of unpleasant odor, it has beCii adopter „v,i ...g&v c^wU^ivc Result of analysis of a sample of dry Ammoniacal Matter representing a lot of 2000 bags for R. The Manufacturers will be very safe iu using this material as a source of Ammonia in their Super-Phoa yiiinio fam v it, of several analyses, that it is rich *nd remarkably uniform in its com position, much more so than any other Ammcnical Fertilizer known to me. Very respectfully, Yours, &c., A. SNOWDEN PIGGOTT, Chemical Laboratorv, No. 108 Arch St., Philadelphia. This article is undoubtedly of very great value, and of tne numerous similar substances which have been introduced for the same purpose, I have never met with one equal to it in purify' and strenth. The nitro genous matter capable of vielding of Ammonia is eqtiHl t,o that, ol the average of I eruvian Guano imported into this country, whilst in its application is far superior. *\ In my opinion there.is no substance in *he market which gives a better and cheaper supply of nitrogen ous matters in the manufacture of artificial manures, and I have no doubt the consumption of it will in crease very largely as soon as the excellent qualities of the article are fully appreciated.
