the Radisson Riverfront Hotel in
. Augusta, Ga. Over 500 people are
. expected to attend the conference,
- including representatives from state
- andlocal government, public/private
- sector partnerships, civic and youth
- organizations, the faith community,
+ families, and other collaborative es
- forts for children and families.
- The Family Connection now has
86 county initiatives in Georgia,
where local public and private lead

agency representatives to develop
" new ways of making local decisions
thatsupport andstrengthen families
and improve results for child and
family well-being. /
The program will feature a key
note address on Sunday, August 3,
by Katharine Briar-Lawson, Ph.D.,
professorat the School of Social Work
at the University of Utah in Salt
Lake City, followed by a special pre
sentation by the Butler High School
Show Choir of Augusta, under the
" direction of Millicent Mazyck. |

Who?”. Samuels, along with con
tributingeditor Ellis Cose, national
correspondent Vern E. Smith, and
senior writer John Leland were
honored atthe NAB.J’s annual con
ference on Friday, July 18, for their
work on the package. The story
examines the generation gap that
has grown between African Ameri
cans of the civil rights generation
and their offspring, who are more
often interested in the world of hip
hop, rather than the political and
social issues which were the ful
crum of their parents struggles.
