Davis appointed to
Golf Hall of Fame Board
Jim K. Davis, senior vice presi
dent of corporate relations at Geor
gia Power Co., was recently ap
pointed to a six-year term on the
Georgia Golf Hall of Fame Board.

project being constructed on
Augusta’s Riverwalk.
Davis is responsible for enhanc
ing Georgia Power’s relations with
community and minority opinion
leaders; and serving as liaison with
environmental, consumer and spe
cial interest groups and organiza
tions to gain support for the com
pany and its programs.
Davis serves on numerous
boards including the American
Association of Blacks in Energy,
Georgia Amateur Athletics Foun
dation, Georgia Association of
Black Elected Officials Corporate
Roundtable (founder and chair
man), Georgia Baptist Health Care
Foundation (chairman), Georgia
Department of Human Resources
(chairman) and National Sports
Council. In addition, he was listed
in Who’s Who in American Col
leges and Universities, named one

Toya serves as the president of
Junior Mission of Beulah Grove
and she sings on the children’s
choir. Sheis also active in Sun
day School.

Houston VA Medical Center

David Whatley, Medical Center
director, has been appointed direc
tor of the Houston, Texas, VA
Medical Center by Hershel Gober,
Acting Secretary of Veterans Af
fairs, effective January 18, 1998.
The 1,037 bed Houston replace
ment hospital, with 3,800 employ
ees, was activated n 1991,
Whatley has served as director
of the Augusta VA Medica! Center
since October 29, 1995. Prior to
his appointment at Augusta,
Whatley held various positions of
increasing responsibility and au
thority in several VA Medical Cen
ters and VA Headquarters in
Washington, D.C.
During his career, Whatley has
received numerous honors and
awards. In 1996, he received the
prestigious Presidential Rank
HMGS annual show and
convention to be held at Sheraton
The Historical Miniature Gam
ing Society of Augusta will hold its
annual military miniatures and toy
scldier show and conventionat the
Sheraton Augusta off of Bobby
Jones Expressway. The show will
run from 1 to 11 p.m. on Friday,
January 9; 9 am. to 11 p.m. on
Saturday, Jan. 10; and 9 a.m. to
3:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11.
