AUGUSTA FOCUS
Howard Universities studying
speech and theatre He calls
his craft “sto’etry” because all
of his stories are recited in
poetry.
“Grand’'daddy’s” recitations
are from works of many Afri
can-American poets and his
torians, his favorite being Paul
Laurence Dunbar. His fasci
nation with Dunbar's work
started as a young child when
his grandmother often enter
tained by reading from a well
worn edition of the poet's hife
and work. Many of Dunbar’s
poems were based on stories
his mother had passed along
tohim. In 1981 Mitch’s father
handed him the book that had
been the source of entertain
ment for so many vears; n the
same manner his grand
mother passed the stories to
him, Mitch began reading
them to his own children. By
repetition, he memorized a
couple of stories and told a few
friends who encouraged him
toshare the stories with school
groups and civic clubs. By

Junebug's” fame as a

Mitch has written “sto’etries”
that link the past with the
present which in turn sheds a
brighter hght on the future
With over 20 hours of mate
