Local youth demonstrates bravery

One could describe a hero as
one who comes to partiapate
in life courageously.
Montrelle Lee Roberts s a
soft spoken, amiabke and attrac
ave child who has demonstrat
ed the heart of a real hero. On
March 21, Monudles seven
year-old cousin, Kevin, was
gven a lighter and firecracker
by a fifth grader at his school.

backyard, but instead, ignited
his t-shirt.
When Montrelle realized
what was going on, he remem
bered what he learned 1n
school-“ Stop, Drop, and Roll.”

who cannot sce standard
sized print, are unable to

can enjoy the services at the

The Augusta Library (of
the East Central Georgia
Regional Library consor
tium) is committed to pro
viding service that meets
the information needs of
the members of the Augusta
community with disabili
ties. The Audio-Visual Talk
ing Book Center, located at
425 9th Street in Augusta
is also committed to f{‘nrin
shing access to materials
and resources for all
patrons. Ms. Bell conveyed
that the Talking Book Cen
ter is a library of profession
ally recorded audio books.

Roberts, stated that Montrelle
grabbed a bowl that was out
side, filled 1t with water from
the hydrant and poured it on
Kevin. He realized this effort
wasnt enough. He then
sprayed his cousin with the
water hose.
“The shirt was sull on fire, so
| started pulling the burning
shirt off of him,” he expressed.
Montrelle sustained only a
small blister on his hand from
this encounter.
After the youth ensured his
young relagve was no longer
burning, he came into the
home and 911 was called.
“Montrelle was amazing,”
said Alica Walker, the Kevins
mother. Through the trauma

She added that the most
requested book in audio
format and her personal
favorite is the Bible. “There
is not a day that goes by
that someone doesn't ask for
it,” she said.
When asked what talking
book was his favorite,

images,” He expressed. The

As Kevin looks at his cousin,
there is a genuine grattude
conveyed in his eyes for Mon

“We just thank God for gv
ing Montrelle the wisdom and
knowledge to know what to
do,” Ms. Roberts shared.
