lgnorlMUS: ‘Here comes a racist and mean spirited man’
Continued from page 1A
imagine what would hap
pen if somebody called his
daughter or mother by such
a name? He would be out
raged, and properly so. The
fact that the local mean spir
ited radio host would think
so litdle of the ladies of Rut
gers and so much of his wife,
kid or mother is at the core
of the problem. Whites like
Imus and the many whites
who support him strongly
feel that they are more than
blacks. They are just that
bigoted. These same radio
personalities are always up in
the faces of the Pitsburg
Steelers, pretending to be
everything that they are not.
Little do they know that the
black Steeler players know
them like a book. They just
don't call them out.
By the way, where is the
NCAA? Remember this is
the organization that con
trols and micromanages the
lives of athletes (especially
football and basketball, black
dominated and revenue pro
ducing sports). Where is
Myles Brand? If he had
issues with Ignorimus, he
would have spoken out by
now. In many of the same
ways he thinks like
Ignorimus. He has to be the
worse NCAA President in
the history of the organiza
tion!
Where is Pat Summit? She
claims to be such a dose
friend of the lady head coach
of the Rutgers team? She is
vocal and demonstrative
about everything else. Why
not this one? This one
should be easy for her, but
she would not dare.

Where are the other coach
es in the NCAA, men and
women? We know where
they are. They are in some
body's living room trying to
recruit some more players
like the ones at Rutgers.
They will lure them with a
line and a smiley face —
only to abandon them in a
heart beat for people like
Ignorimus. Every coach and
athletic administrator in
sports owes it to the Rurgers
team. The fact that they
don't shows that character
and principle are sorely miss
ing from sport. All of these
coaches get in front of the
microphone and talk disin
genuously about the charac
ter building impact of sports.
Where is their character?
This brings to mind a bibli
cal maxim: “Ye shall know
them by their fruits.”
If this had been a team of
mostly white women, you
would have heard it from
whites all around the world.
If Ignorimus had been black,
hed be lynched. The sound
would have been truly deaf
ening, The act on the part of
Ignorimus and the manner
in which coaches and the
NCAA have responded is
shameful. When the Presi
dent of Rutgers University, a
school to which these young
ladies have brought nothing
but positive exposure as they
competed for the national
championship, was asked if
lgnorimus should be fired,
he got a bad case of lock jar.
He could not bring himself
around to saying what all
decent people would say
~YES! Instead, he weaseled
like a wimp. Litdle does he
realize that he wrote a dis
graceful chapter into his
AUGUSTA FOCUS
legacy as President of that
University.
Much discussion has been
devoted to trying to figure
out why Ignorimus said what
he did. Some have been
racist enough to say that he is
entitled 1o his opinion. Oth
ers have said that it fits
because rappers say it
Again, do you think that it
would have been said about a
team of all or mostly white
women? It is very unlikely
that it would happen; and if
it did, he would be fired and
permanently banned from
the media. What he said, in
our opinion, is far worse
than what Pack Man Jones
did. Yet, look what hap
pened to Pack Man.
Opinions, the vast majori
ty of the time, are based on
some veritable data. What is
it about what he saw in this
team that would lead him to
conclude that these ladies
were the nappy headed w—-
res that he concluded that
they were? The only logical
answer is that he, along with
the many folk who refuse to
call him out, think that all
black women fit that descrip
tion. The question suill
remains: what would bring
him to say this? First of all,
he thought that every white
person in the listening audi
ence felt the angst that he felt
when he saw that many
young black women (being
coached by a black woman)
playing basketball and not a
white woman in sight. It
happens all of the time when
whites view all, or virtually
all, athletic teams playing a
sport. Their racism is going
to manifest itself in one way
or another. Ifitis not name
calling, it is unmerited criti
cism of the black athlete. It
is so painful for them to have
to sit as spectators (some
umes with their children)
and watch the beautiful and
graceful athleticism of people
they dont like. It pains them
and the angst has to go
somewhere. Sometimes it
comes out like booing an
excellent player like D]
Shockley, for instance.
Again, black players are
usually criticized severely for
how they are playing—
regardless of the perform
ance. Remember, they dont
have to have a reason. They
are in dangerous denial
about race. If there had been
just one white player on the
floor, good or bad, he would
not have said that. Whites,
supported by a bias media,
demand that there be diversi
ty in sports, even when it
flies in the face of fairness
and sportsmanship. This
amounts to something that
they claim to depose: affir
mative action. Georgetown
University is hated because it
has black players and a black
coach. It is an alright sce
nario for a white coach to

Sponsored by the 3091 Development Corporaion
have a black starting five, but
the black lady coach at Rut
gers dares not.
So it seems that we have
not really come that far since
Jackie Robinson, have we?
Jackie endured similar treat
ment — sometimes from his
own teammates, NOt to men
tion the racist opposing play
ers. The small number of
blacks in baseball today is in
some way attributable to
racism, especially among the
youngest of school players.
Whites consider baseball as a
refuse for them and do litcle
to give young blacks the sup
port and encouragement
they give young white kids.
Go into some of these white
flight suburban areas and see
for yourself.
Much of the hatred and
resentment you find directed
toward black athletes, espe
cially in basketball and foot
ball, is contempt and jeal
ousy of their ability.
Ignorimus was simply com
municating the inner feel
ings of far too many who sit
in the stands. Whites toler
ate black participation
because they need them — for
every position except quar
terback. Few white coaches
will recruit blacks for the
quarterback position any
more. They find all kinds of
excuses. All NCAA coaches
and officials are perfectly
aware of the racial dynamics
in sports. They don't choose
to say anything or do any
thing because they are part of
the problem.
The behavior on the part
of Ignorimus has been
repeated by him and many
others far too many times in
the last five to ten years.
Seems like there would be
some decent people some
where to run him off. Where
is the crowd that carries the
baton of family values?
Where is the Christian right?
Do they not realize that Jesus
would not recognize them?
Where are the evangelicals
on this one? You wont have
a hard time finding them.
They are all tune(sv in o
IMUS. It also goes to show
that these artificials from the
right are just deception with
an ugly mask. Finally, hate
radio sells and there are plen
ty buyers out there who res
onate with IGNORIMUS.
