Started Last Summer.
The controversy was precipitat
last summer when the Southern
railway cancelled through rates
from the Central of Georgia rail
way i$ connection with the South
em railway on shipments through
Atlanta. In effect, it is claimed,
this would have closed the Atlanta
Southern route to growers on the
Central of Georgia railway, or
a/bout 70 per cent of the growers
in the state of Georgia.
The interstate commerce com
mission, in its decision, pointed
out that the real motive for the
Southern’s order was to force the
Central of Georgia railway to
route all its peaches over the
Southern railway.
Divide Shipments.
The Central, in the meantime,
had announced a plan to divide
the peach shipments for the east
ern markets, equally between the
Southern railway and the Atlantic
Coast Line railway and the Sea
board Airline, two thirds of this
business to pass through Atlanta,
the other'one third through Au
gust/
Under the decision, it is claim
ed, the originating carrier routes
the shipments and the old rates
will apply no matter which rail
road is used.

Mortimer produced testimony
which also caused Forbes to stir
uncomfortably in his chair when
he told about an alleged pleasure
