Miss Diane Clark
weds Mr. Akins
Miss Diane Clark and Mr.
Tommy Akins were united in
marriage recently at the Griffin
First United Methodist Church.
The Rev. Elvyn McDonald and
the Rev. Dumas Shelnutt
performed the double ring cere
mony.
The bride is the daughter of
Mrs. Judy Clark and Mr. H. Joe
Clark of Griffin. The groom is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert
Akins of Griffin.
Mrs. Tom Fetzer and Miss
Louise Shewfelt presented a
program of nuptial music in
cluding a solo of “It Seems I’ve
Always Loved You” by Ralph
Carmichael.
The bride, given in marriage
by her father, wore a satin
organza empire gown with
attached chapel train. The
remembroidered alencon lace
with Brussels embroidery
created the trim with pearl
pleated yoke and ruffled cuff
with over the hand lace on the
full capped bishop sleeves. She
wore a chapel length veil of
imported tiered silk illusion

Akins, sister of the groom, were
bridesmaids.
They wore empire waisted
gowns of deep ruby velvet with
ruffled high neck and long
sleeves. Their veils were of light
pink tulle with a pink velvet bow
at the center. They carried
nosegays of pink carnations.
Little Miss Tresa Ann Presley
was flower girl. She was
dressed identical to the
bridesmaids and carried a
basket of pink carnations.

tion room.

The marriage of Miss Louisa
May McDowell of Florence,
Ala. and Mr. Max Russ Sanders
of Florence, Ala., formerly of
Griffin, was solemnized
December 29 at the Woodward
Avenue Baptist Church in
Muscle Shoals, Ala. The Rev.
Thomas Wayne McDowell,
uncle of the bride, performed
the ceremony at 2:30 p.m.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. James Anderson
McDowell of Florence, Ala. The
groom is the son of Mrs.
Maurice Sanders and the late
Mr. Sanders of Griffin.
Mr. Mel Van Dyke of Hunts
ville, Ala. served as best man.
Groomsmen were Mr. David
Daugherty and Mr. Jimmy
McGuffey, both of Florence,
Ala.

Hollonville announces the
engagement and forthcoming
marriage of her daughter, Miss
Annie Mae Scoggins, to Mr.
Charles Redding Gwyn in, son
of Mrs. Catherine S. Gwyn of
Zebulon.
Miss Scoggins is the daughter
of the late Mr. William Frank
Scoggins of Hollonville. She is
the granddaughter of the late
Mr. and Mrs. Early A. Quick of
Haralson and the late Mr. and
Mrs. George Wash Scoggin of

lace formed a fenifore effect
over her fitted empire bodice,

Miss Scoggins is a 1969
graduate of Pike County High
School and presently employed
in the Pike County Tax
Assessors Office in Zebulon.
Mr. Gwyn is the son of the late
Mr. Charles Redding Gwyn, Jr.
of Zebulon. He is the grandson
of Mr. Miles Lumpkin Story and
the late Mrs. Pearl Raines Story
of Warwick and the late Mr. and
Mrs. Charles Redding Gwyn,
Sr. of Zebulon.
Mr. Gwyn is a 1966 graduate
of Berry Academy of Rome and
a 1970 graduate of Griffin-Tech.
He is presently part owner and
operator of Griffin Machine
Works, Inc. in Griffin.
The wedding will be at eight
o’clock February 23 at the
Zebulon Baptist Church.

the First Methodist Church in
Griffin. The Rev. Dumas
Shelnutt and the Rev. James W.
Segars officiated.
The bride, giyen in marriage
by her father, wore an ivory silk
organza gown accented by lace
appliques on English net. She
carried a cascade of white
orchids, gypsophilia and
English ivy.
Miss Mary Thomas, sister of
the bride, served as maid of
honor. Other attendants were
