Gingrich sees need
for decision makers
CARROLLTON, Ga. (UPI)-
Newt Gingrich, Republican nom
inee for the 6th Congressional
District, says America faces de
cay at home and increasing
military threat abroad and des
perately needs leaders who are
not afraid to make hard deci
sions.
“Sometimes I think the power
brokers, the bureaucrats and
the political hacks who claim to
be doing ‘what the people want’
have forgotten from whence
comes the strength and power
of America,” Gingrich told a
group of hometown supporters
here Saturday night.
“It was not the paper push
ers who made America great,
and it will not be the bungling
bureaucrats who save it during
the present crisis.”
Gingrich, who hopes to unseat
veteran Rep. John Flynt in No
vember, compared current na
tional leaders in both parties to
“the crew of the Titanic argu
ing over the dinner menu while
the iceberg looms ahead.”
He blasted Flynt for refusing
to appear at a series of town
hall meetings in every county
in the district to discuss the is
sues.
“We cannot accept this type
of arrogance from our elected
officials,” said Gingrich, a pro
fessor on leave from West Geor
gia College making his first bid
for political office. Any man
who has been honored with the
public trust for 20 years has a
record to stand on. He must de
fend it.”
Orkin’s attorney wants

quash the indictment on grounds

systematically excluded from
the grand jury.
Orkin’s attorney contended in
a court session Saturday there
are no persons under 21 among
the some 1,800 grand jurors list-
Raps hiring policies
ATLANTA (UPI) - State
Rep. J. E. “Billy” McKinney,
D-Atlanta, says the federal gov
ernment should cut off police
assistance funds to DeKalb
County because of discrimina
tion in hiring practices.
“There is blatant discrimina
tion in the hiring practices in all
DeKalb County governmental
agencies, but more especially
the police department,” McKin
ney wrote in a letter to Richard
Velde, administrator of the fed
eral Law Enforcement Assist
ance Administration.

Velde he will take the case to

“We are no longer willing to

rule fairly on this request, I
