They include specifications on
the foundation; electrical,
hearing and plumbing layouts;
and specifications on how the
prefab steel structure will be
tied to the top of a 14-foot wall.
The Griffin-Spalding
Recreation Board had
recommended that the plans be
accepted.
Structural Systems was the
lowest of four bidders and
submitted modified plans for a
15,030 square-foot building at a
cost of $168,850. However,
before the two commission
boards will accept the plans, the
company must furnish more
detailed specifications.
After the specifications have
been obtained, officials of the
company will be asked to meet
with the joint commissions.
County Commissioner Reid
Childers and City
Commissioner Louis Goldstein
will meet with Tri-T Aviation in
an attempt to work out a new
lease agreement for the Griffin-
Spalding Airport.
It was brought out that Tri-T
paid none of its S2OO monthly
rental payments during 1976.
Mayor Goldstein said he
would like to stipulate that no
alcoholic beverages be allowed
in the airport’s buildings.
He also said the city is not
interested in giving Tri-T any
special electric rates for the
airport. Beacon and runway
lights already are being
furnished.
The commissioners also
agreed not to help financially
with renovations of the lounge
area.

Conviction overturned
ATLANTA (AP) — The prosecutor who won conviction
of a young woman accused of murdering her newborn
child in a Georgia prison says he’ll petition the Georgia
Supreme Court to reconsider its reversal of that con
viction.
The court ruled unanimously this week that evidence in
dicated Edna White of Jackson was the mother of the
child, but there was insufficient proof the child had been
born alive.
The state pathologist testified the baby had air in its
lungs, but Justice Robert Howell Hall wrote in his opinion
that this was not necessarily proof that the baby had lived.
“Hence there is no proof of the corpus delecti beyond a
reasonable doubt,” Hall wrote.
The court also ruled that the prosecution failed to prove
the baby died by drowning in the toilet where it was found,
because there was no water in the its stomach, mouth,
nose or lungs.
Dist. Atty. Joe Briley, who prosecuted the case in
Baldwin County Superior Court, said he will ask the court
to reconsider because testimony showed the baby died
from suffocation, not drowning, when it was unable to
breathe in the toilet.
The case received considerable publicity last year when
it was learned Miss White went through her entire
pregnancy and delivery without prison officials learning
of it.
