The undersigned, Committee of Arrange-
Bients, to make preparations for the enter
tainment of our distinguished Guest, short
ly expected, beg leave to inform the sub
scribers to the contemplated entertainment,
that Tickets of admission will be ready for
delivery, at the otficc of William T. Wil
liams, Esq. on and after Thursday next:
where all, who have subscribed, will re
ceive their Tickets of admission, and at
w hich place the subscription list is left open
for all residents of Savannah, or strangers,
who may now be here, or hereafter arrive,
to come forward and subscribe. The sub
scription, to the Dinner and Ball, is ten dol
lars—to the Dinner or the Ball alone, five
dollars each. Ench Ticket to the Ball will
entitle the subscriber to introduce ns many
ladies to the Bull as lie may please to make
ofhis party. In consequence of this ar
rangement no tickets of invitation will be
sent, by the managers,to the ladies ; there
fore each subscriber will be the inviter to
the ladies ofhis family or acquaintance.
Any ladies that may be deemed not re
presented by a subscriber, on an intimation
to that effect, bv a subscriber, or nnv citizen

The Dinner will he given on one day. and

less when they have been caused hy an
easterly gale. Yesterday morning, the
low lands on the opposite side of tin* Savan
nah were again overflowed. Vessels from
the South report, that the greater part of
the lowlands are under water «♦ high tide.
The Creeks have overrun their banks to
such an extent, that they present the ap
pearance of extensive Lakes: and the coas
ters have frequently been compelled to an
chor. from the fear of mistaking their course,
and running among the marshes.

Colonel Warren, of So- th Carolina, in the
Charleston City Gazette, it is introduced
by the following remarks from the corres
pondent. of that paper enclosing it from this
city :—
“The enclosed resolution of our Citv
Council, was introduced hy a member, dis
tinguished alike for the excellence of his
heart and for the soundness of his under
standing ; and who lias uKvavs been sensi-,
b ! y feeling u on the merits of those whose
services deserve the gratitude of their coun
try. Col. Warren lost a log at the seigo
of Savannah. Alufthe city authorities, as
also the citizens, regard with peculiar fa
vor and attachment, any one who has
fought in defence of our liberties, and par
ticularly an individual who bled in defend
ing our city.”
From Mexico.—By Mexican papers re
ceived at lYew-Orlenns, it appears thut. the
session of Congress was closed after an ar
duous sitting, on the 24th December. Pre
vious to their adjournment, tho Congress-
invested the President, with powers of a na
ture so comprehensive, “that they could
be compared only to those of an absolute
monarch.” Many conjectures were ofcour.se
formed. It was said by some that it was
to be attributed to the suspicious move
ments of General Sant ana, in the province
of Yucatan—to the tear of an invasion,&c.
but. nothing certain was known.
Mr. Lionel IIervey, the principal com
missioner from his Britannic Majesty, to
the Mexican government, left, tliu capital
on tiie luth ultimo, on his return to Eng
land.

The Theatre at Washington, under the
management of Mr. Aon, once editor of
the defunct Washington Republican, ap
pear* to labor under more difficulties than
were to have been expected in the capital
of the nation and duringthe session of Con
gress, when the enlightened from all parts
of tho union are congregated there. On
two occasions, recently, the manager was
compelled with a respectable company,
and a good entertainment., to dose the doors
for the want of an audience. Th 1 ' Cirrus
was open every evening, and well attended.

Another letter stilted «* that lie was r<'-
mitting to England 1000 pounds a month
out ofhis earnings in America, and that he

So much for comparative finance. Xover-
less, it is well known to commercial men
connected with that country, that a loan
for 8.000,000 dollars having Lp..ii i>iw*ned t.o
pay oil*six per cent, stock, and bear an in
terest ofper cent, tho subscription to
that loan has not yet been more than half
completed. We observe with satisfaction
the cordial and affectionate manner in
which Mr. Monroe recommends to the le
gislation body a consideration of the mer
its of M- do La Fayette, und of his ser
vo-os to Aim tienn freedom. The spirit in
which t.iis recommendation is likely to he
a- ted on may he judged from tho reception
given to the brave and virtuous object of it,
by tin* Senate and House of Representa
tives on tin- Ot Ii of December ; each of these
bodies appointing committees to introduce
him to tneir respective Chambers, and ri
sing when he entered addressing him col-
l"clively through the Speaker, und paving
him afterwards their individual respects.—
Who does not envy La Fayette’s feelings :
and still more the feelings of those who did
him this homage ? Upon the whole, the
sp. ech of the American President would
repay the most studied and profound attf n-
tion ; arid, as we have already hinted, might
betaken as a useful model for great per
sonages in oilier parts of the world, when
tlmy profess to enlighten their subjects by
a Royal view of the national interests und
concerns.
