Dea: Sir—You expressed a wish that
would give a concise statement cf my suffer
ings, from ' the hopeless commencement,
the present propitious stage of my disease
About five years ago, on toy passage fron.
Bordeaux, during the month of January, from
imprudent exposure on deck, l was seized
with a violent fever. Having no medical at
tendants on board, I was compelled to bear
it, as 1 ought for two weeks, when on my ar<
iival at Charleston, S. C. it was treated as
Typhus. The skill of my Physician subdue*
the fever, but P .cenix*like, the termination
of this gave ria to a disease equally distags*
•ng, an<< which, tiil now, I had tuought incur
-ble. V inous abscesses made tbei uawel
come appearance, particularly on the joints,
which were *we led to an enormous size.—
These gradually subsided into hard tumorsj
one of which on my left knee affected the
bone—an incision was now made and a large
evacuation ofnus, mixed with pieces of bone
took place. In addition to this, I suffered the
most excruciating pains in my joints tilbt man
ever experienced. Every thing that was
administered either gave me no relief >r ser
ved <o aggravate the disease, the severity cf
wh'n h increased with every succeeding year.
Such was mv painful si uation that I despairei.
of ever being restored to my heal h ; I had
not o ily tried the .e.rular means of relief,
but used, though in vain, every popular renv*

medicine, will make me periectly so.
