Dear Sir—You expressed a wish that I

'mgs* from * the hopeless commencement, to
the present propitious stage of my disease
Ahnut five years ago, on my passage from
Rirdeaux, during the month of January, from
imprudeut exposure on deck, 1 was seized
with a violent fever. Unvitig no medical at*
tenffantson board, I w.ts compelled to bear
it, as I tmgigf for two weeks, when on my ar
rival at Ctiarlcston, S. C. it whs treated as
Typhus. The skill of my Physician aubdui d
the fever, but Phcrnix-like, the termination
of this gave ris- to a disease equally distress
ing, snd which, till now, I had th night incur
able. Various abscesses made their unwel
come appearance, particularly on the joints,
which were swelled to nn enormous size.—
These giadually subsided into .hard tumors,
one of which on my left knee affected the
bone—an incision was now made and a large
evacuation of nos, mixed with pieces of bone
took place. In addition to this, I st-fl'ered the
most excruciating pains in my joints that man
e»er experienced. Every thi*'g that wav

ved to aggravate the disease, the severity of
whi.-h increased wi lt every succeeding year

Sin—In consequence of imprudent expos
