There is perhaps no medical observation
better os!shushed, none more generally con
firmed by the experience of the best physici
ans of all Btfes and countries, and none ot
rore importance to the human fumily* than
he fact that many of the -f.ost difficult and in
curable consumptions originate in neglectoc)
colds.. In a climate so variable as ours* where
'be changes of the weather are frequently
sudden and unexpected, it requires more care
and attention to guard against thin dangeron-
enemy of life, than most people imagine or
are able and willing to bestow. The bills ot
mortality exhibit the melancholy fact that the
proportion of deaths by this disease may be
conaidered us about five to one. Inasmuch
then as this fatal disease frequently bj ja defi
ance to the skill of the most learned physic!
ans, it. is a gratification to the proprietor that
he is enabled to oiler to those afflicted with
it, a goodly prospect of relief, iu that highly
valuable remedy, the Vegetable Indian Speci
fic. The Indians arc lioppy in their know,
ledge of medical plants; governed wholly Sr
experience, they arc certain as totneir eft* c
and it is said b ’ nn author of great character
that a true consumption ia • disease never
known among them.
This Specific is obtained by extrsetion from
herbs, root®, flowers, phut-, &c. when in per.
fection. In consequence of a happy combina.
tion of the most valuable herbs, &c. it becomes
■x bi.lj.ru of a superior value. It heals the in*
ju ed part.?, opens ihe pores, and composes
ihe disturbed nerves, after the manner of an
anodyne / consequently the obstruction ot
‘he chest and the lungs which constitute th.s
disease, particularly need its use. It promotes
expectoration, which ia constantly called for,
and whilst it cleanses and heals, it also gives
strength to the tender lungs In thia manner
it removes the hectic fever, improves diges
tion, gives strength to the nerves, repairs die
appetite and improves t * spirits. This speci
fie rnav always be given in Bnf;ty it is mild
pleisant loiho ffcste. and may safely be given
o infants, for which it is of inestimable value.
It affords relief in bows! complaints, teething,
whooping coughs, &c. and is found particu*
l.irly useful in hypochondriacal, nervous and
hysterical diseases. Etch bill of direction
contains a detailed account of this disease in
all its different stages, and will b » accompa

I esteem Dr. Scott's Family Bible, emin. ntiy
calculated to promote the cause of truth and
piety. It seems scarcely possible for one to
read daily the Notes and Observations in the
Family Bible without becoming a wiser and
better man. EDWARD D GRIFFIN.
I have seen no commentary of the Sacred
Scriptural which 1 think so well adapted to
general use and edification. It ia a treasure
which every famaly ought to possess.
A. E4TON,
It ia a work distinguished for the simplici

Of Dr. Scott's Family Bible, I reel free te

No writer seems less disposed to contend
