Mr. W W. Potter,
Dear Sir—You expressed a wish that I
would give a concise statement of my suffer-
ings. from - the nopeless commencement, to
the present propitious stage of my dise.ve.’
About five years ago, on my passage from
Bordeaux, during t he month of January, from
imprudent exposure on deck, I was seized
with a violent fever. Having no medical at
tendants on board, I was compelled to bear
it, as I might for two weeks, when on my qr-
rival at Charleston, S. C. it was treated as
Typhus. The skill of my Physician subdued
the fever, but t-luenia-like, the termination
oi this gave ris- toe disease equally distress
ing, and which, till now, i had thought incur,
ible. Virions abscesses made their unwel
come appearance, particularly on the joints,
which were swelled to an enormous size.—
These gradually aubsidedlnto bard tumors,
one of which on my left knee affected the
bone—an incision was now made and a large
evacuation of dus, mixed with pieces uf bone
took place. In addition to this, 1 suffer ed (in
most eacruciating pains in my joints that man
ever experienced. Every thing that wss
administered either gave me no reliefer ser
ved to aggravate tlie disease, the severity of
which increased with every succeeding year
Such wss my painful si.uation that I despaired
of ever being restored to my heal h ; 1 had
nut only tried the regular means of relief,
but used, though in vain, every popular rem
edy 1 could hear of- It wss in this awful and
despoud'ng condition,that I was persuaded to
imminence a courae of your Vegetable Gsth ■ I
icon, and the happy result is, “/ am the use
of the two bottles, my whole system has under
gone a complete revolution, my pain* have forsa-
ken methe discharge from my knee began
to diminish, and anon cessed altogether, llu
ulcer from whence it proceeded being com
pletely healed. The to mors, for the removal
of which l have tried in vain more remedies
than I can name, are rapidly decreasing ; my
appetite, which was gone, has returned—I am
in fact, nearly well, and feel confident that a
few bottlea more of your, (to me) invaluable
medicine, will make me perfectly 10.
Your obliged friend,
THOMAS BROWN, JR.
Philadelphia, July 26, 1824.
My confidence in the vegetable eatholienn
is undiminishod, and as fresh instances uf its
powers are daily occurring, in my own prac
tice. I have no hesitation in recommending it,
in the peculiar diseases to which it is applica
ble, aa superior to any remedy I am acquaint

Sin—In consequence of imprudent expos-
ure four years ago. I bud the misfortune lo be
come sffllcted with a disease, the painful re
sults of which induced me to apply in suc
cession to several respectable physicians of
thia city, from whom, however, I received
either no relief, or from whose remedies I re
ceived another complaint quite as distressing
»b the former. My whole system became a'-
fected. I could get no rest at night on ac
count of the violent pain that i felt in every
part of my body s the weakness and emacia
tion of which was such that I could scarcely
walk. In thia state I fortunately heard of
your vegetable catholicon—four bottlea of
which, has completely restored me, I have
now no pain 1 my appetite is good 1 and my
strength rastored With many thanks for
tho relief your medicine has given me, I am

Sir—I am now, thanks to your medicine, a
hearty mar. For nearly aix year* I have been
a martyr to a disease, whose ravage! threat
ened, if not soon stopped, to put a period to
my existence. Having had no regular medi
cal advice from the commencement, my
complaint at last got to such a height that I
could not swallow without great pain and
difficulty. Turnon formed in different parta
of my body, and I began to think my situation
almost desperate. The five bottlea of the
Catholicon which I have taken have com
pletely cured me, and I am now as well at I
