The Intelligence from Greece is of a

A desperate attack was made on Miuolen-
glu on the tit of August, by the Turks, under
KOdsehid Pacha, who wsi repulsed by the
Greeks with immense lots—11,000 Turks it
is tild, lay killed and wounded in the ditches
of th* fortress. Oo tbo same day the Turkish
fleet svas attacked by 13 Greek ships, who
burnt o frigate, a corvette sod a large achoo-

Theprevious accounts from Greece had
been of a moat gloomy character, and it was
Stated that the provisional goveroorninenl had
Solicited the protection of Great Britain. \
Recent accounts from Madrid state that, a

baa been discovered, sod that amongst the

Of receiving Lafayette, and it is said that the
moment they heard the General was com
login the frigate Brandywine, they despach-
Ofl orders to the authorities it Havre, to
prevent any kind of meeting and every
mark of honor which which might be at-
tempted to be bestowed on him, which was
intended by the most respectable inhabi
tants. The American Frigate is another,
cause ofembarra-sment. “It is naual when a
frigate enters the port, for her to salute the
batteries with fifteen guns, but this salute
must be'returned by an equal number
Now our goverement are afraid that 'if they
reply to the Americau salute, the people
will think they are expending powder in
honor of Lafayette, but if they do not agree
to return, they will be obliged to let the
frigate enter without saluting, for they well
know that the American captain will not
burn a match without an assurance of re
ciprocity.”
An idea of the means of information pos

their masters, to merchant^ add to retired
gentry, all would purebaaecotian wool. The
sates *t Liverpool soon became invigorated,
from 12,00(1 to 16,000, and even'46,000 bags

slock at Liverpool, of sll sorts, was 80,000

were only 39,200 against 196,100 bags the

went prices, aad if there wefe occasional

gradually advance from a medmm of 9d. for
Uplands to IBd.; for Egyptian from lOd to

important feature of such octasioru, and
particularly the sage whoso writioga and
figures had set the game up-»vii. that great
prices ciroumscribe consumption, and com
mand supplies from every region. The cot
ton spinners became alarmed, and finding,
that the. market for twist and peicu goods
bore no relative proportion to the buoyant
prices of the raw materials, suddenly held
off, borrowed from oacn other,- and placed
their men on one-third and halftime. The
boasting ioat before, and coming from the
same author'

lands might just as well have 3d. per Ib. for
it as lets. • Our import* poured in, and our
market became stagnant. Draughts for
first unit came due, and the hour of sorrow
pressed onward l Uulders pressed tales; and
after a varied and obstinate struggle, prices
have settled down at within a shade of the
rates from which they atarteditbe losses
will average Sd. to lOd. per Ib. in Liverpool
or £5 to £10 per bag. The ruin of four em
inent houses at Liverpool has already taken
place whose losses cun ill' be repaid by their
debtors in America ; besides countless num

pdblic eye. Already we have an import to
the'kingdom up to the 3d of September of

in tha corresponding period of last year,
though it waa gravely "pronounced we could
not have within 40,000 bags of the importa
tion of 1834. In the midst of this ruin, one
good, and that a 'national oae, is effected.—
Our magnificient oottoa-manuheture, which
owes its greatness to moderate prices and
unrivalled machinery, rears aiew her head,
and throwing off the shacklei of high prices
will again enable us to undersell all the mar
