THE SYRUP OF SALZA;
anting from impurity of Blood,
From the Report op the Committee op the
Medical Society.
“—That tho Syrup of Suiza is an effectual re
medy in a great number of puzzling cases of chronic
diseases, ire have not only the testimony of the
French physicians, but the experience of a number
'of respectable physicians in this city, who have had
an opportunity of testing the remedy in coses of
the most obstinate chronic character in Uio public
institutions, where patients labouring under tncur-
able diseases in the samo wards, seeing its remark
able effects under the most discouraglni
stances, would entreat to be allowed the remedy,
or use stratagems to obtain it; and even in theso
hopeless cascsiit afforded.more or less relief. Ul
cerous sore throats, which are of an indolent and
languid character, and which two usually compli
cated with the other symptom? of mercurial dis
eases, such as cutaneous affections of the skin,
diseases of the joints, bones, &c. t the Syrup of
Salza, if persevered in for six or eight weeks, will
in general perfect a cure. And although thVmodc
of treatment is not so expeditious as the mercurial
plan, it possesses this advantage, that the patient
comes out of it with a constitution unimpaired;
^ „ j and have long
resisted all the various modes of treatment, will ge
nerally heal under this Remedy with little aid from
external means. The removal of diseases so opposite
in their character as many of these ulcers are, is
truly surprising, and can only bo accounted for by
supposing, that the use of the medicine produces t

Excruciating and deep seated
pains, have Been treated with this remedy with en

posed to proceed from syphilis, and many that
certainly are not so, will yield to this remedy, ana
no matter what may be their character or naturo,
from the simple herpes (itch) to tho loathsome le

" * indication of amendment w improvement in
w ral health, with return of appetite, and nuiet

oriong standing, the joints will remain somewhat
swelled; but the patient will recover his health,
with fulness and plumpness of habit. Besides these
effects, this medicine exhibits tonic powers; under
its regular use the appetite improves, all the (Unc
tions indicate the existence of a moderate state of
excitation, especially those of nutrition, and the
laticnt acquires a degree of vigour he had long

Pulmonary affections of every kind.
The following certificates, just received
from highly respectalo gentlemen will show

Baltimore County, Feb. 14th 1829.
Gentlemen—l foel i*my duly to acknowl
edge the groat benefit I have derived from
l he use of De La Monterat’s Columbian Veg
etable Specifict. I do not like to speak of
tho Medicine in the exalted terms in which
I estimate it, I will, therefore, ns brieflyos
possible, give a history of my own situation,'
with tho effects produced by this raluablo
medicino. I have been, for the last fivo or
six years, laboring under a pulmonary Con
sumption, pronounced to be sncli by the at
tending physician, during which time I have
consulted many physicians, taken much med
icine, but all to but littlo purpose. The 12th
of March, 1828,1 puked blood for the first
time, and continued eo to do for several days
in succession, and on the 14lli of the same
month was'confined to my bed, whore I lay
for two months until I was reduced to such
o stato of debility, that my friends began to
despair of my recovery. I bad made use also
of all tho popular remedies without benefit,
and having accidentally heard of this Speci
fic,! determined to give it a trinl, anticipating
from, theliie of it, no better result tlino had
attended the use of all Iho remedies I lied to.
ken; but in this I was happilv disappointed
At my very lowest elate I commenced t be uso
of this Specific. I took tho first dose el
night in n little herb lea, sweetened, which
threw mo in n genllo perspiration and
procured for mo n good night’s rest.—
I continued to take tho medicino as directed,
and in about five dnva my cough was com
pletely stopped and have not had any return
since. I am now perfectly satisfied of Ihe
superior quality ofthia Specific over every
other medicino offored for tho euro of tho
nbovo disease. You are at liberty to use this
letter lo any way you may think troper.—
Yours respectfully,
(Signed,) JOHN R. FJ/,ICOTT, ■
Baltimore, Feb. 10/A, 1829.
I, Joseph N. Ruckle, do hereby cortify,
that for upwatds of six months,I was severe

pnined with a very bad cough and shortness

CERTIFICATES.
Philadelphia, May 28, 1834-
Sir,—I am now, l Imnks to your medicine, a hearty
man. For nearly six years I hare been a martyr to a
disease, whose ravages threatened, if not soon stopped,
to put a period to my existence. Haring hod no regu
lar medical advice from the commencement, my com-
f itoint at lost got to such a height that I could not awal-
ow without great pain and difficulty. Tumours formed
in different ports of iny body, and I began to think my
situation almost desperate. The five bottles of tho
Catholicon which I nave taken have completely cured
mo, and I om now as well as I could wish to bo. With
my thanks, I am your obliged humble servant, &c.

A MOST EXTRAORDINAY CURE UFTCTED BY Par&Jt'g
Cathomcon.—Captain Donely, keeper ofthe light on
Sapelo and master pilot fur Doboy Bar, athorizes is to

date.
“ About a month ago, I bought three bottles of Pat
ter’s Catholicon, for tho purpose of testing its virties
upon Mr. Peter M’Cullocli, pilot of Doboy Bar, who
had been for several years confined tonis bed aid
crutches in consequence of diseased limbs, and ulcernttd
feet—the soles t of his feet were in that shocking stmt,
that tho bones were perceptible both to the sight aid
touch.
Mr. M’Culloch, after the use of three bottlfs oft!*

Mr. Wm.W. Potter- *
Dear Sir—I have now but onr bottle of CntlJfcliciy*,
loft. A person arrived this ovening, who eaine 60 miles
since morning, for 17 bottlcnef Catholicon, and would
have taken 24; but I could let him havo but 0. He
came expressly for tho article, and says that tho person
who had used two bottles, has had a »» liver affection
or consumption” 20 years ; and that tlireo of the fam
ily arc invalids, and havo paid in ten years, for medical
advice and medicine, $1,500. He says the person who
has used the two bottles, never found any medic,nr to
compare with thf. Cathoi icon, and that the ncigh-
bours { seeing the astonishing effects it produced, anum-
lier ol them sent the abovo person to procure tlio arti
cle, for various chronic diseases. The person told me
ho would wait two day, if he could to procure
the two dozen. Will you, without fail, scud k mc,
or, ifnecespary, even come witha few boxes of the
Catholicon to Hartford, as I fear delays will take place
in New York and New Haven; and as'to being out of
the article, I caunot think ofit, * “ *
I am, in haste, yours, &c. E. W. BULL.
TO SEAJUEJf.
Thousands of nnfortunatc seamen are rendered use
less to their country by the ravagos of a devouring dis-
enso,to which they are moro subject than any other elasa
of men. The cose of an unfortunate sailor who either
embarks in a diseased state, or finds himself so, on a
long voyage, must bo truly deplorable; and it may
not, perhaps, be improper to suggest Iho propriety of
always including the Catholicon in tho medicino chest*
ortho Navy and Merchants’ Rcnrico, it being a sovereign
remedy in tho disease alluded to. b ™
