hesitate to recommend it to the public ns a cer

disease so troublesome in the lower countries,
which would be bunished by tho use of Hum

and Ague several times very severe, and found
no relief until through the persuasion of Mr. W.
Cnrr, your agent for Humphreys’ Vuluublu Fever

in the short space of 2-1 hours. And I do recom

X For Uio Cure of Bilious, Remittent und In

es incidental to a debilitated state of the system,
such as night sweats, See. &c.
Tho native Febrifuge is offered. The proprie-
tor is aware that tho common objections to all new
preparations will be urged against Uiis. To obviate
all such objections, he has simply to state that it is
prepared according to tho receipt of an eminent
physical!, who used it with perfect success
through u long practice, iu perhaps thu most sick
ly region of our country, viz: thu Mississippi val
ley- Again from the exalted estimation iu which
Quinine is held, not only by tho people, but hy
Uie most skillful physicians, it will appear supere
rogatory to olfor any new article. But Uio Nutive
Febrifuge possesses all the power ami certainty
of Quinine in controlling Fever without affecting
the head, and may lie safely used therefor, where
Quinine is iuaduiissihlu. It is not thu purposu of
thu proprietor however sanctioned hy custom on
such occasions, to uttumpt u display of medical
knowledge hy udopting some ono of Uie contra
dictory theories afloat, with regard to Uie charac
ter and causes of Fever.
Believing with the learned Gregory that though
there has been so much written concerning Fever
there is no one suhjuct in the whole circle of medi
cal 'Science which still involves so ninny disputed
points. Letting all Uicorius pass, we stand hy
facts. . The first of which is that tho Native Fe
brifuge will euro fever, from whatever cause it
may have originated, nnd if any doubt exists, us to
the fact wo invito the afllicted to the test, with
confidence us to the issue. What it has done it
will do. The following certificate of one well
known wifi show what it linn done:
Savannah, 12th May, 1847.
Mr. Jns. A. La llochu having requested me to
state iny knowledge of tho Native Febrifuge, 1

ally in tho Fever* of Uie valley ofthe Mississippi
nnd Arkansas, in nil cases in which Quinine is us

your Febrifuge, permit uio to hand you Uio fol
lowing statement of facts. For nearly 3 years my

tinually recurring Chills and Fevers, notwith

Mr. Fdilor: Sir,—My souse of duty to my suf
fering fellow mortal* law induced me to make Uio
following communication; and I am in hopes that,
should you see proper to give it in whole or in
E nrt, a place in your valuable paper, it may nrovo
oiiQUciul to some poor fellow sufferer. In tho
winter of!8G4, mid the day after I hud a Imrd day’s
work lifting and moving fogs, I was taken with a
violent pure in my hack and loins, and the day
billowing with a total suppression or stoppage of
urine. £ I was then a citizen of Jones county,
Ga.] I immediately called in n physician of great
eminence and distinction ; for thirty-six hours I
sutlered ns much, to nil uppourunco, as it was
possible for human nature to endure, and at last
found relief only by the help of Uio catheter. I
applied then to several eminent physician* both
in Baldwin und Jones, without receiving any ben
efit other than a temporary relief, for iny com
plaint would every two or Uireo day* return, nnd
tho catheter was my only helper. In 18371 re
moved to this county, and brought with me my
tormenting complaint und my friendly catheter.—
Hero, ns there, I applied to tho most skillful phy
sician*, ns I thought, and here, ns Uicre, I receiv
ed no benefit from them. In September 3842,
nfter having suffered at time* tho most excrucia
ting pains for eight years and nine months, aud
after having spent a great deal of money (nt least
$500) on doctors during the time, I was induced
to try Dr. M. 8. Thomson, of Macon, and though
I entertained tho most violent prejudice to his
mode of practice, my necessity compelled mo to
go, fori had then been confined to my house for
ten day*, and had to resort to the use ofthe ca-
Uieter three or four time* daily. Iu this misera
ble plight I left home, went to Dr. Thomson.
Htated my case to him, and lie gave mo medicine.
In half an hour after taking his first dose, I felt tlmt
ease, and had that free and copious discharge of
urine which I had not felt or laid in almost iiiuu
venrs. And from that time to this present day,
March 20th, 1847, 1 have laid no return of iny
complaint, and no more use for my catheter. In
order to make tho cure permanent I continued
the use of the medicine several months. Since
then I take nothing for it. I eat, drink, sleep,
und work as in former days, and feel a* well und
sound as ever I was. You may well suppose thut
it did not tako long to bullish prejudice nt that
rate, and I now say to the afllicted, that I believe
in many instances that prejudice stand* more in

their disease*. Such, Mr. Editor, i* my expe

affection of the bowels, connected with the most
troublesome and obstinate costiveness, the parti
