OLD DR. JAOOB TOWNSKND,
THE ORIGIN At DI8UOYERER OP THE
Genuine Townsend Sarsaparilla.
Old Dr. Tovvn»end is now about 70 years of njtc, and has
,ong been known as the AUTHOR and DISCUPEHKR
of the GF.HUIHE ORIOIHAL “ TOIVHSF.HD SAR-
SAPARIlJ.A.' t Doing poor, he was compelled to limit its
manufacture, hy which means it has been kept out of mar
ket, nnd the sales circumscribed to those only who had
proved its worth, and known its value. It had reached
the ears of many, nevertheless, as those persons who had
been healed ol* sore diseases, and snved from death, pro
claimed its excellence nnd wonderful
HEALING POWER.
Knowing, many ytart ago. that he hnd. hy his skill,
science and experience, duvised an nrticlo which would be
of Incalculable adfttntage to mankind when the means
would be furnished to bring it into universal notice, when
lu inestimable virtues would bo known and appreciated.
This time has come, tho means nre supplied ; this

is manufactured on the largest scale, nnd is called for
throughout the length and breadth of the land, especially
“ it is found incapable of degeneration or deterioration.
Unlike young 8. i*. Townsend's, it lmprovos with age, and
nover changes, hut for the better: because it is prepared on
icientifie princiylet by a oeientifie man. The highest knowl
edge of Chemistry, and the latest discoveries of the art,
oavo all been brought into requisition in the manufacture
of the Old Dr’s Sarsaparilla. The Snrsnpnrllla root, it is
well known to medical men, contains many medicinal pro
perties, and some properties which are Inert or useless, and
others, which if retained in preparing it for use, produce
fermentation and acid, which is Injurious to the system.
Some of tho properties of Barsaparilla are so volatile, that
they entirely evnpomte and arc lost in the preparation, If
they are not preserved by a scientific process, known only
to those experienced in its manufacture. Moreover, these
volatile principles, which fly oir in va|H>r, or as an exhala- *
lion, under heat, are the very essential medical'properties
ef the root, which give to it all iu value.
SOURING, FERMENTING, ACID “COM
POUND” OF S. P. TOfVNSEND,
and yet he woulo fain have it understood that Old Dr. Jactvn
Townsend's Oenuins Original Sarsaparilla, is an IMITA
TION of his Inferior preparation!!
Heaven forbid that wo should deal in an article which
would bear the most distant resemblance to 8. P. Town
send’s artielsl nnd which should bring down upon the Old
Dr. such a mountain load of complaints and criminations
from Agents who have sold, and purchasers who have used
8. P. Townsend’s FERMENTING COMPOUND.
We wish it understood, because It is the absolute truth,
that 8. P. Townsend's article and Old Dr. Jacob Town-
(end's Sarsaparilla are heaven-wide apart, and infinitely dis
similar ; that they are unlike in every particular, having
not one single thing in common.
As 8. P. Townsend is no doctor, and never was, Is no
chemist, no phnrmnceatlst—knows no more of medicine or
disease than any other common, unscientific, unprofessional
man, what guarantee can the public have that they nre re
ceiving a genuine scientific medicine, containing all tho
virtues of the articles nsed in nreparing it, nnd which are in
capable of changes which might render them tho AGENTS
of Disease instead of health.
Hut what else should be expected from one who knows
UOthlntcomuaratlvelc nf tmuliclnX-nr dUass*!- It r»nnir*m
a|terson olsomeexperience to cook ana serve up even a
common decent meal. Uow much more Important is it that
the persons who mnnufactaro medicine, designed for
WEAK STOMACHS AND ENFEEBLED SYSTEMS,
should know well the medical properties of plants, the
best manner of securing nnd concentrating their healing
virtues, nUo an oxtnnslve knowledge of the various diseases
which affect the human system, and howto udapt remedies
to these diseases!
It Is to arrest frauds upon the unfortunate, to pour balm
Into wonnded humanity, to kindle hope in the despairing
bosom, to reiture health nnd bloom, and vigor into the
crushed nnd broken, ami to banish infirmity that OLD DR.
JACOB TOWNSEND has SOUGHT and FOUND the op
portunity and means to bring his
Grand Universal Concentrated
Remedy
wlUiln tho resell, nml to tke knowledge of all who need it,
that they muy learn and know, by joyful experience. Its
Transcendent Power to Heal.
Any person can boll or stew the root lilt they get a dara
Colored liquid, which Is more from the coloring matter .
the root than from any thing else; thoy can then strata
this insipid or vapid liquid, sweeten with sour molasse.
snd then call It •* BARriAI’ARlLLA EXTRACT or BY
RCJP," But such Is not tho article known as the
GENUINE OLD DR. JACOB TOWNSEND’S
SARSAPARILLA.
This is so prepared, that all the inert properties of the
BtirsHpurillii root Hre first removed, every thing capable of
becoming add or of fermentation, is extracted and rejected;
then every pnrtlcle of medical virtue Is secured in a pure
and concentrated form; and thus It is rendered incapable or

T HE WIFE’S FKIEND.—Important
to those aboutto become Mothers.—Professor
ALEXIS V. PAULITAN, of the Paris Lying-in
Hoppitul, member of the Medical Acudoiiiy of

Pharmaceutical College, respectfully begs leave
to unuouuce to the Ladies of America, that he
has appointed I)r. Jerome Y. C. Ropknhurty,
of New York, his sole American Agent, for the
sale of his wonderful medicine, known in France
ns The Wife’s Friend, or Mother’s Assistant the
most extraordinary medical discovery the world
has ever seen. Its province is to Lessen the
Pains of Child-Birth, nnd promote a safe, easy,
and speedy delivery, which it does by assisting
nature. It is perfectly hurmless. efficacious,
pleasant to the taste, and never fails to promote
an easy nnd safe delivery, nnd improves tho gen-
cral health of both mother and child. It hasbeeu
tested for years in nil the principal Lying-In Hos
pitals of Europe, nnd receives the sanction of
nearly all the'prominent Colleges and Medical
men oftlie old world. It is thegreatcstmedicine
in the world ; as all will admit that a medicine
must be that will lessen the terrible pains usually
attendanton childbirth. There is no mistukeu-
bout this medicine doing Till that ia said ofit.
It never fails. It is in the form of a fine, light
powder, lobe made into a drink, and used for a
few weeks previous to the expected event, uud
its price is so low as to bring it within tho reach
of ull. Surely no humane husbaud will suffer
his wife to endure pnin, when it can be so ensily
and cheupiy avoided. For the small sum of only
$1,00. sent potf paid to DR. JEROME Y. C.

L iquid adhesive plaster, or col-
LODIAN—a uow nnd elegant substitute
for Plaster cloths, Sutures, Bandages, &c.—This
article has been found by nil surgeons who have
tosted it, far superior and piorc convenient thau
former means of drossing incised wounds. For
burns, sore Nipples, and eruptive diseases, it
bus proved extromely efficacious. It is nlso
much preferable to court plaster and gold beater's
skin. It is not uctcd upon by water, nududiieres
with almost incredible tcnncity to the skin, keep
ing the edges of tlio wound closely together, and
cuusing it to heat with hardly a perceptible soar.
A history of the article, together with commu
nications highly commendatory of its value from
Dr. J. Mason Warren of Boston, Erusmus Wil
son, F. It. H. Loudon, nnd otlmr surgeons, will
be found accompanying it. A supply of the
above received by
