To the Honorable the Jflut/or aud Council of the
' City of Savannah.
Duties more Vtnprrative than usual now be*
long lo every individual, directly or’ indirectly
connected with our iU-fatetl city, a neglect to
discharge any of them is reprehensible and
highly t enstirsbfo. Each one should take th«
part in aiding to remove tlie evils of a wide-
spread calamity, for which he is heat fitted.—
Under thin impreaaion, and feeling like hun

almost every sUtQ.iuthe Union, and most or all
of the principal cities, with minor and inferior
towns und villages, to collect contributions in
ihoucy, uml all Ymd of building materials, and
all other avtiefeh which may in some measure
contribute to the relief of out diatresaed citizens,
All I ask is the sanction of Council, or tfccir
authority to act, merely defraying my travelling
expenses: (my own vehicle 1 will furnish) leav
ing it to m) self tq add such credentials here,
aud at other cities, which will more certainly
secure success in the undertaking, and also to
myself to make such appeuls or addresses wber$

Bv a proper and timely appeal, individually,
to tltq cnaritahle of our sister states knd cities,
