houseless, which wus accepted.

On motion of Alderman liourkc,
Resolved, That r committee be appointed to
drift a petition ‘ to the Governor of Georgia to
call the Legislature together; for the purpose
of alterihg. the laws on the subject ofhsuing
notes, so as to enable the city of Savannah o
form an institution bottomed on the faffli und
funds of llie city, to advanctfio pursons who arc
inclined to build good and sufficient fire-proof
stoi cs in the city; they mortgaging the lots and
buildings to tlic institution, and the mone) ad
vanced to he applied exclusively to the erect
ing of fire-proof buildings.
.hut be it further resolved, That a particular
and minute statement of the loss sustained by
the people of Savannah, together w ith a full ac
count of the sums necessary to be advanced (or
the relief of the distressed sufferers shall lie for
warded to the general assembly. B an extra
session of the same shall be culled by the Gov
ernor and that the Legislature b.e petitioned to
pass an act to Appropriate the entire county tax
not hitherto appropriated for the years 1820
und 1821 to the rebel of our city.

suffered from our distressing calamity, inform

rooms for their afflicted families, but also with
means to relieve their immediate wants, as far
as Council can with safety give.
