THE PLEIADES,
A Weekly Literary Gazette, to be published
in Charleston, S. C.
W E have long thought that awcckly pub
lication, entirely devoted to light and
miscellaneous literature, would meet with a
ready iiml^ liberal patronage in this commu
nity. We now make tho experiment.-—
' bir editors have hitherto confined their* at
tention very selfishly to thu wants and ro-
qiiiri’inmits of their own sex, leaving unnoti
ced that liner port ion of creation to the u-
iiiUHoinont and instruction of which, as well
as that, of our own order, our labors shall in
future he equally directed. To them, there
fore, v/c loo!; fur patrJhugc and encourage
ment. *
We pn most; 44 THE PLEIADES” as a
receptacle ibr that light and graceful litera
ture, original mid selected, which is calcula
ted for the occasional amusement and gratifi
cation oft ho public. As a weekly melange,
in which tho gentleman uud the ludy—the old
and the young—intelligent anil uninformed,
wifi equally find something to relieve tha
weighty or graver employment, mid to dissi
pate the burden of troublesome and unplcas-
nht hours. Original and selected tales—Mo-
rul Essay#/—Poetry and Miscellaneous, Ori
ginal and Delected Literature, pruned and
gathered into shape, will form its nrincipu!
contenjs—over tho morals of whicli a scru
pulous and discriminating caution will bet
carefully exercised and maintained.
