THE PLE1ADE»i *
A Weekly Literary Gazelle, to be published
in Charleston, S. C.
W E have long thought that a weekly pub
lication, entirely devoted to light and.
miscellaneous literature, would meet with a
ready uml liberal patronage in this commu
nity. # We now in,ike the experiment.—
Our editors have hitherto confined their; at-
tontion very selfishly to tho wants and*re-
qnirp)!)oi>t.iof*tlioii own sex, leaving unnoti
ced that litter portion of creation to the n-
inuseinent and instruct ion of which, ns well
us that of our own order, our labors shall in
future be equally directed. To them, there
fore, we look for patronage and encourage
ment.
We propose “THE PLEIADES” os a.
receptacle fur that light and graceful litera
ture, original nnd selected, which is calcula
ted lor t fie occasional nmu-’ement uud gratifi
cation ofthe public. As a weekly melange,
in which tho gentleman and the lady—the old
und the voting—intelligent und uninformed,
will equally find something to relieve tho
weighty or graver^employment, and to dissi
pate the burden of trnithloomn nnd unplcus-
ant hours. Original mid selected talcs—Mo
ral Essays,—Poetry mid Miscellaneous, Ori
ginal and Selected Literal tiro, pruned nnd
gathered into shape, will form its principal
contents—over the murals of which a scru
pulous und discriminating caution will bjft
urofidly exorcised und maintained.
“ Tho Pleiades,” will be published weekly,
•commencing on the first Saturday in Novcii.-*
ber next, in u form of eight medium quarto
pages, and will be put to subscribers ut $4,
per annum, if paid m advance, or 85 nt the
xpiration of six months. Single numbers
*-’A cents each. No subscriptions received
Jura less term than one year, when tho vol
ume will be completed.
Any person procuring ten subscribers, shall
receive a copy gratis..
Subscriptions received nt the different
Printing Offices, ami nt No. 44 Queen street,
where a specimen of the work can bo gratui
tously obtained.
