Several new Stores nave already opened, and

spirited disposition prevails to give ns hereto-

COTTON, than in any other city or town
in the up country.
As for money, none will be countenanced

THE PLEIADES,
A II eckly Literary Gazette, to be published
in Charleston, S. C*.
WP havo longrfiiought that a weekly puh-
▼ v hcntion, entirely devoted to light and
miscellaneous literature, would meet with a
ready and liberal patronage in this conunu**
nity. We now make tho experiment.—•
Our editors have hitherto confined their; at*
tention very selfishly to the wants and re
quirements of their own sex, leaving unnoti
ced that finer portion of creation to tho a-
musement and instruction of which, as well
«is that of our own order, our labors shall in
future bo equally directed. To them, there
fore, wo look for patronage and encourage
ment. °
Wo propose “ THE PLEIADES” as n.
receptacle for that light nnd graceful litera
tures original and selected, which is calcula
ted for the occasional amusement and gratifi
cation ofthe public. As a weekly melange,
in which tho gentleman nnd the lady—the old
and the young—intelligent und uninformed,
will equally find something to relieve th«
weighty or^‘graveremployment, and to dissi
pate the burden of troublesome and unpleas-,
ant. hours. Originul nnd selected talcs—AIo-
ral Essays.—-Poetry nud Miscellaneous, Ori
ginal nml Selected Literature, pruned and
gathered into shape, will form its principal
contents—over thu morals of which a scru
pulous and discriminating caution will bn
enrefully nxercisud and maintained.
