Gentlemen—I feel it my duty to acknowl

uso of Do La Montcrat’s Columbian Vegeta
ble Specific. I do not liko to speak or tho
Medicine in tho exalted terms in which I esti
mate it, I will, therefore,as briefly as possible,
give a history of my own situation, with the
effects produced by this valuable medicine.
I have been, for the last five or six years, la
boring under u pulmonary Consumption, pro
nounced to bo such hy the attending physi
cian, during which timo I have consulted
many physicians, taken much medicine, but
all to hut little purpose. Tho 12th of March,
1S2S,I puked blood for tho first timo, and con
tinued so to do for several days in succession,
and on tho 14th oftlio same month was con
fined to my bed, where I lay for two months
until I was reduced to such a state of debility,
that iny friends began to despairof my recove
ry. I had inado uso also of all tho popular
remedies without benefit, nnd having acciden
tally heard of this Specific, I determined to
givu it a trial, anticipating from tho uso of it,
no hotter result than had attended the uso of
all the remedies I hnd taken j hut in this I was
happily disappointed. At my very lowest
state 1 commenced tho uao ofthis Specific.—
I took tho first doso at night in a little herb tea,
sweetened, which throw mo in a gcntlo per
spiration and procured for mo a good night’s
rest. I continued to take tho medicine ns di
rected, mid ill about livo days my cough was
completely stopped and liavo not had any ro-
tuni since. 1 ntn now perfectly satisfied of
the superior quality ofthis Specific over every
other medicine offered for the euro of tiie
above disease. You are at liberty to uso this
letter, in any way you may think proper.—
Yours respectfully,
(Signed,) JOHN R. ELLICOTT,

I, Joseph N. Ruckle, do hereby certify, that

TO SEJLMEjY.
Thousands of unfortunate seamen are rendered use
less to their country hy the ravages of a devouring dis
ease,to which they are inoro subject than any other class
oftnun. Thocnsoofan unfortunate sailor who either,
embarks in a diseased state, or finds himself so, on a
long vovage, must bo truly deplorable; ami it may
not, perhaps, bo improper to suggest the propriety of
always including tho Catholicon in tlm meUieine chests
ofthe Navy and Merchants’service, it being a sovereign
remedy in Iho disease alluded to.
TO SO UTHEHY PJ^JIjYTERS.
Tiie Vcgctnblo Catholicon is peculiarly adapted tn
thnse diseases which are nrcvalent among the coloured
population of the south. In that disease which is cal-
led Yaws, it is n sure remedy ; a single trial of il will
convince planters of its superior cflicaey to any remedy
never henaturo in tho United States. They should
of a similar without it.
