BY YESTERDAY' S MAIL.
Havre Commercial accounts a few days la
ter will be found under our commercial head.
The Philadelphia Sentinel of 29th uh. states
that the President has remitted the sentence
of death against Wilson, one of the mail rob
bers recently convicted in that city, leaving
him to the imprisonment consequent upon
the other charges to which he has pleaded
guilty.
From Avx Caves.—By Capt. Thompson,
of the Rover, at Marblehead, from AuxCiyes,
we learn, says the Register, that letters had
been received at Aux Cayes from Port au
Prince, stating that the British Consul was
shot at near the city, but fortunately made
his escape. A reward of $4,(KID was offered
by President Boyer for the detection of the
villain or villians concerned in this nefarious
attempt to murder. Capt. T. did not obtuin
any further particulars.
From Turkey.—From the Boston Daily
Advertiser.—By the brig William & Menrv,
which arrived at quarantine yesterday from
Smyrna, we have received the Smyrna Cou
rier of April 18th.
The last letters from Naupha announce the
arrival in that city of a courier extraordinary,
bearer of despatches from Prince Leopold
for the President. It is said that his High
ness in announcingto Count Capo dTstrn his
approaching departure for Greece, informs
him in a very dry manner, that his new du
ties, the ituation of the country ho is called
on to govern, as well as hie position with re
gard to the powers, oblige him to prolong for
some months further his abode in Fmrope,
and that consequently ho begs him to con
tinue to hold the reigns of government, and
to acquaint him in a precise and detailed
manner with the true situation of Greece.
Immediately after having taken cognizance
of these despatches, Count Capo d’lslrias
made known his resolution to send two
emissaries to Prince Leopold, who we are
assured, are soon to set out, and are charged
with placing under the eyes of his Iliyhness
a faithful and circumstantial picture of the
present state of Greece.
The U. S. ships Java and Lexington were
at Vourla, and were to sail in a few days (a
firman having been obtained from the Sul-
tan) for Cons’antinople

Extract of a letter,
May 17.—“To-day, we have a moderate demand
for Cotton—prices nominally ns before, not firm. The
arrivals the lust iwo days, are nearly 20,000 hugs.”
Liverpool, May 17—The number of vessels which
arrived on Saturday and yesterday (15 and 16th) is
very great. The import of cotton on these too days
alone, cannot bo much short of 20,000 bags The im
port of American Hour is heavy , anil the import of
wheat from thu Baltic is large. Yesterday a cargo of
wheat arrived from Spam, whence considerable supplies
are expected.
