The Republican says ho wUhos to run “ Mr. Bar-

well. But m Mr. Bartow Is not yet a candidate, wo

The Republican Bays we “ seek to make capital for
cur candidate by creating sectional jealooBios against
Savannah”—and asks " will the people of this and of
tho District'submit ■ to such conduct?" Without
Stopping to reply to this question, which we con
fess that we are not careful to answer, wo remark
that Instead of striving to create " sectional Jealous
les against Savannah," the very weightiest considera
tion in determining car coareo, is a desire to remove
them. The western portion of tho District, after
having again and again, and again supported candi
dates from this coantyorotbercoantieson the sea
hoard, now ask, that for once, they may havo a show
ing. Who, wo would ask, does most to romovo or pre
vent "sectional prejudices against Savannah,” we
who admit the justice of their claims or thoso who
deny them ? We do not fear to say publicly, as wo
have often said privately, that by a generotu, sponta
neous and whole souled movemont of our friends in
this city, in support of tho favorito of tho Western
counties, be he who hejnight, much—very much,
might he done, not only Tb promote the strength of
cur party, bat to advanoo tho substantial interests of
Savannah.
At tho same wo cheerfully acknowledge that if the
Whigs of that region are willing to take a candidate
from tho sea-board, no one clao lrnB any right to com
plain in their behalf.
As for Col. Jackson—wo are at a loss to compre
hend the course of tho Republican, in relation to that
gentleman. Docs it indeed, while affecting to depre
cate It, desire to make a political contest of tho ap
proaching judical election ? If so, by incessant abuse
of the Democrat who may bappon to bo a candidate
for tho Judgeship, it can very surely accomplish its
purpose. Whllo that ia an issue which tho friondaof
such candidate should do nothing to bring about.it
Is one from which (constituted as this judioiol Dis
trict is) thoy havo nothing to fear. After sovoral of
Its very characteristic flings at him,, tho Republican
asks," by what process of reasoning will tho Geor
gian justify its support of Col. Jackson who is now a
candidate for tbo Bench ?” Now the fact is, we havo
not written one sylablo ia support of Col. Jackson
