Sec. 1. Be it ordained by the Mayor and Aldortnen'of the
City of Savannah and hnmleta thereoP in Council assem
bled, and it 1* hereby ordained by the authority of the
same, that from and nf’e-r the 13th day of June 1858, the
pay of each City Constabb* shall bo four hundred dollars
por annum, payable monthly. InsteaiTef the pay now re
ceived, aud each officer be compelled t« keep a horse, nnd
iu failure to do so. bo fined by the Mayor.
Sec. 2. Be it further ordained by the authority aforesaid,
that nil ordinances nr parts or ordinances militating against

found at large, shall forfeit nud pay a sum not exceeding
five dollars for each nnd every time any such animal shall
bo found at largo ; and It shall be the duty of thn City Mar-
ehal nnd City Constables to take such cattlo so found at
large,contrary to the provisions of this ordinance, nnd im
pound them until thn said fine and all costs aro paid, and if
the animal be not claimed within five days, it shall lie 1 he
duty of the City Marshal to sell the same at the iiound, first
giving at least five days’ notice in onn of the public gazettes
of tho city of tho description of the animal and the time
nnd place of sale, and ho shall |>ay the no't proceeds, nfter
