Thu fine side-wheel steamship OSPREY.
The Osprey is a side-wheel Btenmshlp. built In 1847,
lengthened nnd re-built In 1850, is about 185 feet In length,
27 feet beam, and 20 leet depth of hold. By builders’ meas
urement about 1000 tuns and registers 007 tuns. Has sin
gle engine of 62 inch c. Under, nnd 7 feet stroke. Ilna late
ly been supplied with force-pumps, hose, life-boats, life-pro-
servers. Jtc., according to tho new law of Congress, and Is In
every respect tu order for continuing on her present line,
or uny other route for which she may be required.
During the past eighteen months ucarly forty thousand
dollars have been expended filNUshtng her with new holl
ers, overhauling machinery, building dining saloon, now
furniture, kc.
Slia is fitted up with eighty state room berths, nud two
large saloons between decks; and on deck, officers’ rooms,
und a dining saloon sixty feet (n length, furnished with
JohuKon's patent sofa dining tables, and capable of seating
one hundred pusseugers ut table. She Is capable of ac
commodating one hundred nud fifty first class passengers,
and is abundantly supplied with bedding, tablo furnituro,
linen, plate, &c.
She is one of the most economical sea steamships afloat,
her consumption of coni being only about twelvo tuns In
twenty-four hours.
The Osprey Is now running between Philadelphia and
Charleston, nnd from which Bho has been regularly plying
since February last, during which time she has not missed
a single trip, and has cleared over nnd above her running
expenses between twelve nnd thirteen thousand dollars.—
Her owners not being lu tlio shipping business, and having
rim her mostly for the benefit of tho business of their o.vn
city during the spring and fall trade of tills year. In the
liopo that those most interested in the Charleston trade
would have secured her permanently on the line, which not
having been accomplished, they liufio now determined .to
sell her peremptorily hv public miction.
