Whereas, from tho increased commerce of thu
t>ort or Savannah the duties of tbe Health Officer
has greatly inoreasod, and tbe salary has not bee u
creased during the last thirty years:
i Sec. 1. Be it ordained by tho Mayer aud Aldor-
inon or tho City of Savannah aud tho Hamlets there
in in Council as eiubicd, and it is horoby ordained
by the authority or tbe samo, That from and after
tho passage of tills Ordinauco the salary of tho
Heultii Officer be at the ratn of flvo hundred dol
lars.
Sec. 2. Be it further ordaiued by tbe Mayor und
Aldermen orthe City of Savannah aud tbe Hamlets
thereof In Council assembled, and it is hereby or
dained J>y author 11 y of tho sauio, That tho feus of
tho Health Officer (which shall be paid by tbe
owner, master, or consignee of nny vessel) shall
ho as follows:
For boarding any vessel iyiug at the quarantine
ground, at Fort Jackson, two cents a ton up to 500
tons, beyond which ua additional feo shall ho
chargod. In cose ora visit at night tlio foes charged
shalioo double the procoedng; and all expenses
incurred for boarding any vossul shall be paid by
tho Health Officer, except that tho city will furnish
a quarantine boat.
,For visiting and inspecting a vessel which has
boon subjected to quarantiue, aud giving a permit
to come up to the cltv, five dollars.
Seo. 3. Bo it fartfior ordained by the authority
aforesaid, That in caso it shall bo deemed necessary
by tho Health Officer to send a patient to tho Test
House from tbo vessel, it shall be ilouo by the
vessel’s boat, or at the expeuse of the ownor, mas
ter or consignee of such vessel, under a penally, in
case of failure or refusal, of uot exceeding one hun
dred dollars, to bo collected in tlio usuul manner as
prescribed bv ordinance.
