with those numbers on tbe Tickets printed op sep
arate slips of paper, aro encircled with small tin
tubes, and placod in one wheel.
The first 210 Prizes, similarly printed and en

are then revolved, and a Number is drawn from
the wheel of Numbers, and at tbe same timo a
Prize is drawn from the other wheel. Tho number
and Prizes drawn out are opened and exhibited to
the audienoe, and registered by tbe Commissioners,
tbe Prize being placod against tbe number drawn.
This operation is repeated until all tbo Prises are
drawn out.
Approximation Prizs—The two preceding aud
the two succeeding Numbors to those drawiugthe
first l« Prizes will be entitled to the 54 Approxi

All that they draw over tbe amount guaranteed
accrues to the purchaser.
Certificos or Package of 10 Whole Tickets $60

Tho Southern Railroad commoncos at Jackson,
tho capital of tho State, and Is finished as fur as tho
town of Brandon; and is in good running order
and well equipped to that point. It extends from
Brandon iu u lino almost directly east eighty-two
aud a half miles, to tbo intersection, of the Mobile
and Ohio Railroad, a few miles bolow the town ol
Marlon, in Lauderdale county; and passes through
the counties or Rankin. Scott »nd Nowtou. The
lluo is over u tfigli rolling country, well waterod
aud timbered,and in poiut ofbeaUhtulue88,econom
teal living, fto., is equal to tho most favored
portions of the uurolluos and Georgia. Tho grading,
excopt for tho first tweuty milos is generally light;
and upon the moat of the sections the oxcavatiou
and embankment alternate favorably; tho excep
tions belug in tho two heaviest cuts. The material
i8 of a character easily moved, the growth of the
country ulfoMs abundance of timber uuitable for
bridging uud oroaS'tlos; and it is believed that uo
work offers, iu facilities for construction, greater
inducemepisto contractors, especially those using
negro labor.
The company is onUroly out of debt, and lias duo
to it by rellanio stockholders, about $;<3b,009, which
will doubtless bo paid as tbo Board of Managed may
call It lu. It is also an rcoiplont under tho recent
graut ofLnds mado by Congress, iilhoy can bo had
along tho line, which is bellevod to be the coso, of
nearly 490,000 acres of laud.
The road couuoots with aud is on extension of
the Vickburg aud Jackson Railroad, completed and
in full operation to tho Mississippi river at V ckburg;
opposite which city, in Louisiana, commences the
Vicksburg, Sbrevonport and Toxas Hallro* 1, now
under contract for its whole distance and U rapid
8 rogress of construction. It intersects the New
rleansand Jackson. Great Northern Railway at
Jackson, aud through that at Con ton, connects with
the Mississippi Control Railway, the iron of which
is now being laid to Holly Springs. It intersects
with tho Mobilo and«'bio Railroad, as already stat
ed, near Marlon, and its point or Intersection meets
with th^forth-eastorn aud Southwestern Railroad
in Alabama, and through that unites with tho roads
in Virginia, Tonnessee and North Carulina. It is
also an indispunsabla Unk in the lino of Railways
that aro to unite Charleston and Savannah, through
Montgomery. Vicksburg, Bhrevenport and El Paso,
with the Pacific Ocean running its entire length on
tho same parallel of latitude with these places. It
is thus obvious tbat ibis line of work is one or tho
mo:t important unfinished enterprises in tho coun
try. It is thorough National in its character: for
it unites Maino and Now Orleans, and the Atlantlo
and the Mississippi, by indissoluable bonds. But
whilst thus National, it appeals especially for aid to
Southern men and Southern enterprise, for when
completed, with tho intermediate gap in Alabama,
it will, with its connections, now built and being
built, run right through tbe heart of those great
Southern cotton-growing States, Louisiana, Missis
aippi, Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina, and
unites tbe great inland sea with tbe broad ocean.
Those facts aro stated to call attention to this line
of road and to induce capitalists and contractors, to
embark liberally in its construction. Tho fifteen
milos of completed Railroad, with its equtpmeuU
and sixty valuable slaves, mnny of them meobanlcs,
is a bonus from the State or Mississippi; tho public
land bos been donatod by Congress ; and it is, per
haps, not greatly over-estimating tbe prosent pro
perty of tbe road to put list or near ono million of
dollars in whioh sura future stockholders who may
become such by direct subscription or money or
work, will boat once equally interested. It will
thus be seen that this road proeente peculiar in
ducements to meu of means to engage in its con
struction.
