Ordinance to Increase the . a'-ury df the Itentth
officer of the City of Savannah, and fix his foes
for boarding vessels and for giving a certificate
for health or permit to come to the city ami dis
charge their loads, and for other purposes :
Whereas, from tho increased commerce of the
port or Savannah the duties of tho Health Officer
has greatly increased, and tbe salary inis mn been
creased during tlio last thirty year#:
Sec. 1. Bo It ordained by tho Mayor and Alder-
tucu of tho City of Savannah and tho Hamlets there
in In Council as cmb.cd, and it is hereby ordained
by tbe authority of the same, That from and after
tho passage or till? Ordinance tho . alary of the
Health Officer be at the rate of five hundred do!-
lars.
Sec. 2. lie it further ordained by the Mayor nud
Aldermen of the City of Savannah and the liamUts
thereof iu Council assembled, and it is hereby or
dained by authority of thu same, lhat the fees of
tho Health Officer (which shall ho paid by the
owner, master, or consignee ol' any vessel) 'shall
ho D3 follows:
For boarding any vessel lying at the quarantine
ground, at Fort Jackson, two cents a ton up to 600
tons, beyond which no additional fee 1 hail be
charged In cn?e of a visit at night the fees charged
filial! oe double the proceed ng; aud nil expen.-ts
incurred for boarding auy vcssol .-bad be paid by
the Health Officer, except that the city will furnish
a quarantine beat.
For visiting ami inspecting a vested width him
been subjected to quarantine, and giving a permit
to come up to the city, five dollars.

aforesaid. That in case it shall be deemed necessary
by the Health Officer to send a patient to the l’e.-t
House from tho vessel, it shad be dotio by the
vessel’s boat, or at tho expense of the owner, mas

case of fillure or refusal, of not exceeding ono hun
