Cotton estimate..
Wright's New York Circular of last Wednes
day yather checks the late tendency to exagera
ted estimates of the cotton crop. Be says:
In my last circular, I ventured upon tbe
opinion that the crop for this smsou would
not reach 3,000,000 boles. I have nothing since
Itom tbe South to induce me to enlarge it; on
the contrary, I me more and more reason to
reiterate it. Some parties in New Orleans, In
fluenced by heavy receipts, aro disposed to
name a largo figure. Let the receipts be light
for a few weeks and the aame gentlemen would
drop at once to 2,800,000 to 2,900,000 as the
maximum; the receipts this season If relied
upon as the indication of probable crop, ut least
before March next, will only tend to mislead
and cause disappointment. There aro and have
been since tho season began, unusual induce
ments for planters to hurry their crop to map
ket, and with the exception of Mobile,th. fitcill-
ties for so doing have been good; the only sur
prise Is, that tbe total does not show an excess
up to this date of 80,000 to 100,000 bales as
compared with tho. rime date last year; it
was quite within the range of probability and
S . Is entirely consistent with a crop result-
; In aomwbat less than 3,000,000 bates. Ke
pt. show a decrease as compared with last
year, and large us they aro at the South it is
not probable tbut alter next week they wll
bo again as much us in any woek last
year with perhaps an accidental exception, un
til after the middle of April next Exports
are still small, and for Liverpool must necessar
ly continue so for some time, buying for al
markets In the South Is fees except to Great
Britain.

From tbe Paris Gorrtspoodtnct of tbs Londou Star.
A teltgraphlo extract ofthe Constantinople

Hamtllea, and has only added to tbe conhislon
which already prevailed In the public mind.
Th. tint qntstlon asked is, whether the an
nouncement It brings or the resignation of the
Turkish Ministry aud the appointment of Re-
schld Pacha to the post of Grand Vlxler la the
aam. whloh was telegraphed ikon Vienna on

I The fact aecma to be that the Sultan, pressed
fkom both sldea, has at last resolved to yield lor
tbe Urn. to thejmore meanaolng pressure, which
Is that of Austria and England, ' who have
heir force, on the spot, and to leave itto the
European Powen to settle among theroselvoH
whlcfr view In tho question of the occupation
shall pnvall. It Is to lie remarked that there
ate rumors current in Parle, alnoe yesterday
morning to the effect that almostall the diplo
maths difficulties, whloh occupy for the time
the attention of Europe, are Inaralr way or
arrangement. Particular importance la attach
ed to a councilor the Ministry, which was
eld on Friday at Compelgne, and at which i
be Emperor presided. what g| '

more may pomess will not be visible until to
morrow, as yesterday, All Saints' Day, the
Aoutse was closed.
(From the London Star.)
We have nothing to add to the telegn.
announcement, in yesterday morning's Star, of
tbe fidl ofthe Turkish Ministry, and the conse
quent triumph of tho English and Austrian di
plomacy at Constantinople. The real fact,
rhatever It may be, la still doubtful; and it la
singular that only one Paria paper olBnnday eve
ning, the Patrie, gives thlslntelllgeuce. At
I he same time no must note that* dispatch
from Vicuna, purporting to glvo Constantino,
le new. up to the 23d ult.the day on which
he Ministerial change took place, declares that
on that very davit was definitely settled be
tween the Porto, England and Austria, that the
occupation of tho Buck Sea and tho Dauubluu
1 'rinclpallttes should lie prolonged. We repro
duce these statements without offering any
opinion.
(From tho Liverpool Post.)
The Anglo-French alliance may be consider
ed as nearly at an end. Both conntrios are ut
entire enmity on the Eastern question; and it
a now admitted that the manoeuvres of the
French government were successfully counter
acted by the exertions of Lord De Rcdclliro. U
docan.t follow, however, that his Lordship or
the Government, which approves of his con
duct, la right; but the Inference la In thoir fa
vor, for tho British licet still keeps tho Black
Sea, and la receiving augmentationa. Austria
and England are certainly agreed respecting
the policy to bo observed towards tho l’rlnci-
lallties; and if this fact required further con-
irmatiun, It will bo found in the hossllity of
the French and Russian organa to this now al
liance.
nuaaiAH view or the anulo-austrian al
liance ANU THE NEW CAUSES OF DIS
PUTE.
From LeNord.
We cannot avoid mentioning a fact which
n our opinion, is a most important One. Russia
U the object of an accusation Ikom the Cabinet
of London, and probably also from that of Vien
na, whloh, in this question, goes hand in band ||
with England. And on what does the accu
sation bear I It cannot be the affair of Bolgrad,
for Art 20, of the treaty of Paris, la formal on
that bead. It can, therefore, only be the ques
tion ofthe Isle of Serpents. But tho declara
tions of the Cabinet of St. Petersburg hare bwn
so clear and categorical on the subject of that
isle, that it would be really an Insult to our
readers to recur to them. We may, neverthe
less, remark that thia Cabinet has repeated to
satiety that that islet could never become the
subject of any dispute, since Russia had alwavs
bad possession of it without the slightest ob
jection on the part of Turkey, since it could
never become a strategical point of any Impor
tance, and Its only value to Russia was that,
lying on the road to Odessa, it served to keep
up a light-house which was Indispensable to
the numerous vessels going to that port.
Russia besides has declared, and it is the
irlncipal point of tbe whole afikir, that she re-
I irred the question to the Congress of Purls.
Since therefore Russia only sentner six soldiers
there because foreigners bad come to take pos
session of a light-house which belonged to her,
was it not more natural, supposing both parties
to be animated with equally conciliatory feel
ings, that things should bo allowed to remalu
InBtatu quo until the decision of tbe Congress,
the authority of which, when once admitted by
all for the settlement of questions arising out
of the late war, could not be disputed? What,
however, do we now see? Scarcely has Russia
declared that ahe will accept in good faith the
decision that may be come to in common by all,
than England and Austria refuse to submit to
that decision, and, by so doing, deny tbe com
petence ol the Congress. In other words, the
cabinets of London and Vienna, for reasons
which we will not at present examine, arrogate
to themselves the right of deciding by them
selves questions whicb properly belong to ell
the powers that signed the treaty of Pari-, and
in which they are, strictly speaking, both judges
and parties.

Wo Intend publishing the letter, fram the
Georgian & Journal, written by a citizen of
Thomas ftvoring the election of Dr. Robert Col
Una as President of the Main Truuk Company,
but the paper containing it has been mislaid.
We have not the least objection to Dr. Col

and right that he should be elected, but we de
not consider any one entitled to the office ex
cept he who represents the largest amount of
stock, and In whose hands the destinies of the
road would as safely lie trusted as In the hands
of any other.
The Main Trunk Company, It was arranged,
