A Boston Failure.
Boston*, Dec.;5»—Heoshaw & Son, Bankers

Louis villb, Dec. 6—It is reported here
that the aegroes bare attacked the iron works
in southern Kentucky. An insurrection is
feared. Vigilance committees hare been form
ed at Lafayette and Hopkinsville.

been active to-day, prices firm. Bales 7000

SECOND DISPATCH.
Dec. <L—Jacob Little & Co’a. liabilities are
not definitely known. They probably exceed
two millions.
TlilKD DISPATCH.
Little's liabilities are confined to stock con
tracts amounting to ten millions. A!! other
liabilities are protected.
Another Failure. *
New You, Dec. 6—A firm of large rice
dealers in this city bare failed. Liabilities
about $130,000, which fall mostly on a Charles
ton house.
CoL Wood’s Living Wonders ate to remain
but a few days. Those who have not seen them
would do well to note the fact.

tlnne In a slave community? 1 think not Then
remove all taxes against tbe slave or impose
equal ones on the white. Is it known do you
think >Iees Editors, that a free colored man if
be detire work, and come in competition with
the white laborer, has at first to pay hi* tax
amounting to Id 25? Is there any reason in
this? Wonld there not be more reason in taxing
tbe itinerant laborer, who bring nothing here
and carries all be canofl? Indeed, who pro
duces all tbe difficulties we have—who is the
author of the present “Strike,” which isdriviog
our commerce away. I have been thinking
seriously, whether a tax amounting to prohibi
tion should not be levied against them. I know
of lOfiOO bales of cotton which was advanced
upon by one of our citizens, which was cent to
Charleston, as it was impossible to do anything
with it here -the Presses are choked with cot*
ton—they cant deliver it, as the ships have no
men to put it on board. No Insurances can be
effected, as ali the offices have as much now as
they can take on those places- then is it
strange, that it rhould be driveii to Charleston?
Who are the losers by this? Is not every one
who is interested in the city ? and w it not the
duty of the citizens to protect themselves and
their property, and how can it Ire done other
than discriminating against the white and in
favor of the negro? The 10,000 bales which
went to Charleston would have left 30,000 dol
lars in our city. How much more is to be
driven the same way. 1 acknowledge the full
right of the white laborer to demand 10 dollars
a day if be can get it, but if be cant, 1 deny his
right to prevent, by threats of vengeance,
another for working for less—whicli is just the
ca«e at the present time. 1 hope that attention
having been called to tbe subject, tbe city
Fathers will give the matter their grave con*

according to his means. I know that increased
taxation is necessary, and lor one I am willing
to meet it, provided no discrimination i.i made
in favor of a privllcdged class.

Arrival of Delegates.
The following delegates to the Southern
Convention arrived, and registered their names
yesterday afternoon:
Benjamin It.NeufviJle, Charleston.

Thus far Virginia is more largely represent'-
ed than any other State. It is gratifying to
see the glorious “Old Dominion” taking the
lead in any great movement for the advance-
rnent of the common interests of all the South
ern States.
There is a large number of delegates already
in the city who have not yet registered their
names.
A dispatch from Kingsville S. C., states that
two hundred who should have reached here
yesterday were detained at that point by a
failure to make the connection with the train
for Augusta. They will doubtless be in to day.
The train which arrived last night at 11
o’clock brought down about a hundred. Among
them the immortal author of “ Simon Suggs”
J. J. Hooper, Esq.
By Monday night we shall probably have a
thousand delegates in the city to say nothing
of other visitors.
Tbe following toy interetting article we
find in tbe Tempt (Fie.) PtoamOur of Satur.
day (Nov. 29.) We bare little doaU that tbe
plan of operations detcnnlueJ upon by Gen.
Uanieyandtbe Government, will secure tbe
cooiominattoa of tbe long dettrcd purpose vl tbe
remora! of tbe rnragt* from Uie “land of
Fk> w er*."
The subject of removing tbe ludkn* is again
being agitated, and we revert to it with tbe
ph-Aiong fcAMintuce that tbe much desired con
summation will be obtained, as speedily as pos-
sib.e. Gen. Harney is in o--tuuuudui the troops
in Florida, and hi* wcli-e»ut>b»ned character
a*, an active and energetic man, and success*
lui fuduii tighter, affords uu good ground to
hope that, under such faTviaoie ou-pices, our
Indian difficulties will soou be settled—the
aavagea removed or exu.-im.ualcd.
Utn. Harney is fresh from the wett, where
he bos been eugagtd in subduiug.a powerful
tribe of Indians. He is, we presume, about
fifty-six years of age, but po»taeaU tue energy
and vigor of youth, combined wan au indomi
table energy, which, together with bis ex
perience in fighiiugtho^emiut/iesjn this State,
eminently qualify mm tor the position he now
occupies—Commander-in*clia i of the troops
in Florida.
A tripartite treaty between tue U'uitcd States,
tbe Creeks and the aeminole* ru the West, (we
will probably puoUah tbe treaty next week)
wbicn passed the senate ui ihv Utt session ol
Congress, and wili, undt/ubtedly, pass the
Huo&eat an early day of the next eo>s>ou, and
receive the official sanction or the President,
makes liberal proposition? to tne st miuoles in
Florida—insuring indemnity for ali sacrifice*
and expenses incurred in remoriug I j the West
—an equal footing with then brethren already
removed, or, if necessary, a distinct govern
ment, together with i noereJ bcunty, aud ed
ucational and other advantages i>: civilized
goverumenU-^promisiug protection in their
individual and rational rights irora invasion by
other tribes, Ac.
On the fa:th of this treaty, Gen. iiarneyvrill
endeavor to have a con..aitaUou » ,tti the Ii-
dians, (to effect which he has, ior tire present,
oidered a cesvlian of hostilities, on the part of
the whites, save in the deieusive, and that
flags of truce Ire displayed whenever and wher
ever ind.ous may be lunnd,) in which he will
present the liberal offers of government, as
well as the foliy or longer re»isting uy force—
and, in a word, avail himself of every honest
inducement to prevail u^on them to remove
jHraccably; at the same time assuring them, in
case of their refusal, that he has tne yuthority
aud tbe means of lorcing them to turn*.
The wisdom of this movement mil Ire seen
at a glance, when it is borne iu mind that tbe
troops are not now in a position to commence
hoatilit'es, and it cannot but especially recom
mend itself to every philanthropist, as another
opportunity to the Inuuns—poor ignorant de
vil?, as they a e—to benefit their condition,
and prevent annihilation which will, inevitably,
follow a rejection of these term-.
in tbe mean time, every arrangement will
be made to commence offe uve operations, as
Boon a- the futility of the experiment, above
mentioned, shall have oeen demonstrated. In
that event, we have every reason to hope that
the way will Ire brought to a arccesiful termi
nation in the shortest possible lime—by a
simultaneous action of all the available force,
which will amount to alrout 2500, rank aud
file. A line of posts, for tbe protection of the
froutier, is to w: established—commencing at
some suitable point on the western coast, a^d
ending at Ft. Gapron, on Indian River—garri
soned by alr rut ten Companies, and three or
four Companies will be employed in scouting
duty below this line. To use Geu. Harney's
language “The Indians must Ire kept fy.low the
settlements.”
We entertain the hupe $h«tt, should an inter
view be obtained with the Indians, the liberal
offers which will ire presented by Gen. Harney
—the man, above all others, of whom tiiv.
Seminolea have a dread—may inctice many,
and probably all the Indians, to ceaso. Iheir di?»-

Tub Cotton Crop.—Wright’s Circular,
(New York) of Inst Wednesday, made up for
Liverpool, says:
There is no new feature to report in regard
to crop. As the season advances and advices
from the interior are received, more evidence
is obtained by the results of individual crops,
confirmatory of the views J have expressed as
to the result of this season’s crop. Very few
planters make more cotton than they did last
year, and then only on some favored localities,
with Increase of hind und force, while the great
mass ol results show a falling off, variously es
timated ; urnl nearly all agree in the fact tbut,
while last year the picking continued up to
January, this yeur It was almost completed by
the middle of November. The general esti
mate remains as before—3,000,600 bale-., with
more converts to this figure as u maximum.”
