WHEREAS it hat been repreieoted to me, That Denys
Rolle, Esq. a member of die prelent parliament of
Great-Britain for the town, of Barnftaple, now refidiag in
Savannah in the (aid province, the Hon. James Haber fhara,
Esq. president of th,e council of the (aid province, Thomas
Moodie, Esq. deputy fee retar y of the fame, George Bail lie,
Esq. com miliary of the Tame, and Simon Munro of the lame
place merchaht, have at different times, to wit, the (aid
Denys Rolle, Thomas Moodie, George Baillie, and Simon
Monro, in the morning of yesterday,” being the thirtieth
iaftant, and the (aid James Haber Sum in the morning of
thitday, (everally received threatening letters,* written in

(on or per(ons concerned in writing and fending the laid
threatening letters, or either of them, I do hereby promise
his Mqjcffy’s raoft gracious pardon to any one of them (ex
cept the perion or persons ttho aftually wrote the said let*
ters, or either of them) who (hall difeover hU, her, or their
accomplice or accomplices therein, so that he, (he, or they,
may be apprehended and convided thereof: And, as a fur
ther encouragement, I do hereby promise a reward of fifty
pounds fieri ing to any person or perfom making such difeo
veiy as aforefaid, (except as above excepted) to be paid by
the publick treasurer of this province upon the convidionof
. *®y one or more of the offenders. .

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS divers ads of parliament have been pa/Ted
for preventing and fuppreifingricts, routs, and un
lawful assemblies, and for punishing the offenders accord
ing to their deserts, that thereby the peace, quiet and fafe
ty of the publick might be more effedually secured and pre
served; AND. WHEREAS I have received information
that fome notorious riots have lately happened in the town of
Savannah, THEREFORE, for the preventing and suppres
sing of such riots and tumults, and for the more speedy and
cffedual punilhing the offenders therein, I have thought fit,
by and with the advice of his Majesty’s Council, * to iflue this
my proclamation, notifying to all his Majesty’s fubjeds ia
this province, that all such persons as have, or hereafter
mUy be concerned in such riotous and unlawful assemblies as
aforefaid, will be proceeded again ft, prosecuted, and pu
nifhrd, to the utmost rigour of the law. AND Ido hereby
charge and command a.l judges, magistrates, conftabtes,
and other peace officers whatsoever, ftridly to observe and
pay duCobcdience to this my proclamation, by doing all that
in them lies, and that they are by law required to do, for
preventing and fupprefling any riot or tumultuous affenibly
that may hereafter happen within this province, as they will
answer the contrary at their peril: And all his Majesty’s
liege fubjeds are hereby required and commanded to be aid -
mg and assisting herein.
Given under my band and the great seal of hit Majefiy*t
said province , in the Council- Chamber at Savannah , the
thirteenth day of November , in the year of cur Lord one
thousand seven hundred and sixty five, and in the fixib
year of his Majefifs reign .
