The area of lowest barometer remains
as on Wednesday, north of Iowa.—
The high pressure which had advanced
upon the Southern and Qnlf States still
remains, bat is somewhat diminished.—
The barometer, after rising somewhat, is
now decidedly fallen on Lakes Erie and
Ontario and in New England. The tem
perature has very generally risen in the
Atlantic and Gulf States and on Lako
Ontario. It bos fallen from Lako Erie
to central Illinois. Southwesterly winds,
with partially cloudy and clear weather,
has verv generally prevailed in New
England and south of Pennsylvania and
the Ohio river. Cloudy and threatening
weather, with local rains, has been more
frequently reported from the lower Lakes
to Southern Illinois and Iowa, and heavy
rain now prevails from central Ohio to
Lake St. Clair. Clear weather has pre
vailed to-day from Lake Michigan north
and west.
Partially cloudy and clear weather is
probable for Friday from Louisiana east
ward, and in the South Atlantic States.
The conditions remain favorable for local
storms from Missouri to Ohio and north
wards. The low barometer, with threat
ening and rainy weather, now prevailing
from the Ohio to-Lako Ontario, will
probably extend towards Pennsylvania
and New England.

I rushed for the engine-room door and

came up so badly injured that he died

guage was correct or not. When there
was no steam on it, it would sometimes

I worked from twenty to twenty-two
