TLat is a lictter joke than Prentice ever got off. 19" That Bod man bill was all a mis take, explains the Courier-Journal. Ol course it was. It was the great mistuk «t the Courier- Journals life Odr Bowen—he of the plurality of wives—has entered the ring for the Re publican nomination for Oovcrnor of Mouth Carolina, with the ohanoes in his favor, fVThe Harrisburg Stale Journal says “the Republican party is ready to offer millions in defense of the right” But was it right to steal the millions that it is ready to offer? Speaking of Butler’s speech at Springfield, Massachusetts, a Radical pa per says, “he gave the Democracy some wbolesoase food for reflection.' Of course he gave it with a spoon. >B)~ One objection that Greeley has to the renomination of the present inenm- lientis "Grant's family is too large." There’s where “ great minds differ.’’ It has all along been one of Grant’s regret* that his stock of kin, near and remote, was exhausted before all the offices wero filled. tgt, It is now settled beyond the per- adventuro of a doubt that thore is yellow fever in Charleston and that it exists in on epidemic form, though, so far, seems to be of a mild type. However, this is a point upon which the doctors seem to disagree. The Charleston peo ple suppressed the fact that the fever was there as long as they could, and managed to keep it clo^ for about a month, lint they were not able to suppress the dis ease itself, and now, when they can no longer conceal the matter, they sot abont lotting the world know the real state of affairs. It is always well to let these tilings be known at once, in order that other places, liable to contagions, may begin to set their houses in order against any possible spread of the disease. On Sunday morning last, about four o'clock, a fire broke out in tlio Lamar House Saloon, which was fortunately dis covered before it had mode much pro gress, and by the powerful exertions of a few men, was stopped before it did very much damage. Mr. Deodwyler, the pro prietor, perhaps lost some six or seven hundred dollars in stock, besides the in jury to the house. Wo regret to learu that Mr. Tinsley It. White, who resides a few miles below this village had his residence, with noarlv all of lull'furniture, bedding and clothing burned on Wednesday night last Mr. White and lady wore absent from home when the fire occurred, and it is supposed that the Are broke out from a room m which a negro woman laid a fire for the purpose of ironing.
