A IPistiller on the Itampage, St. Louis, September 6. — A man named Hanna, who run# an illicit distil lery in defiance of revenue officers, and who has figured in half a dozen shooting affairs, killed three of a party of men who attacked his house at Bloomfield last night. NEW -YORK. Coni Min,* Collapsed—JTetc Work Municipal Matters—Greeley for Ihe Presidency. New York. September. —The Wilkes- barre Coal Mines collapsed, six acres of ground sinking two hundred feet. It is understood that to-clay application will bo made before Barnard for an in junction against the heads of the city government to restrain them from col lecting taxes, issuing any more bonds, and transferring any more real estate. These are the principal points to be iu- sertUft in the legal document This move ment iff inaugurated by an association called the Executive Committee of Citi zens and Tax-Payers for the financial re form of the city ol New York. A lively meeting of the Union Repub lican Association recommends Greeley to the National Conventon for President. The anniversary of LaFayette’s birth day was celebrated by the French Society. The mate of the ship Euterpe, charged with scuttling the ship, lias been bailed in the sum of $3,000. Dr. Mary Frances Seeley, of Cleve land, and Dr. Sarah C. Stewart, of Phila delphia, have sailed for Calcutta, under the auspices of the Woman’s Mission Society for heathen lands. The accounts of the city and county will be submitted to a committee next Monday. The following is the result of ihe game of base ball played to-day. Albany, September 6.—The Democrat ic State Convention lias been called to meet at Rochester on the 4th of October. law-abiding, and universally respected in his community. The order .for his imprisonment caused much feeling. A terrible tragedy was enacted seven miles south of this phvco last night, by which two officers of the present a State administration met their death at the hands of a desperate negro. The offi cials were brothers, and were trying to arrest the negro. Both were stabbed in the neck—dying instantly. The negro was arrested, WASHINGTON. Wm Belli tcilh Mexico— Tteo American Assailed- One of them Captured—Grant's Me in rn to Washington Predicted- The V\ei ther, Washington, September 6.—Informa tiou was received at Washington to-day, by telegraph, stating that the American bark Harvest Home had been attacked by a party of Mexicans, off the bar of Santa Anna, on tlio night of the 27th of August uud her master obliged to put to sea with out completing her cargo. Another dispatch from Galveston,\also dated to-day, mentions that an American bark, owned by a firm in Norfolk, Va., aud of which James B. Thurston fvit iLster, was [captured from him by an armed force of Mexicans, on the 27th of August, off the bar of Santa Anna, and that the captain was forced to abandon her; and that twenty-four hours after ward, he was picked up by the Harriet Home aud arrived in Galveston yesterday. Capt. Thurston will visit Washington and make a full statement of the facts in tlio case to the Government. Grant’s return is fixed for the 10th of November. Meteorological. Rainy and threatening weather have extended to North Carolina. Clear weather con tinues in the Middle and Eastern States. Low barometer and cloudy weather on Lake Ontario. Boston, September 6.— One hundred delegates representing the National Di vision of the Sons of Temperance, are holding meetings in Boston this week, which are being largely attended. Among the delegates present are Judge S. B. Ransom, of New Jersey, and Robert Faust, of Pennsylvania. GEORGIA. The society wns received by Major Reilly, at the capital, in a speech of wel come, which was fittingly responded to by Marshall P. Wilder, President of tho In the afternoon President Wilder de livered the annual address, after which the delegates had an excursion down the James river. Scaulan testiiied before the graud jury that he kuew of no |>oliti- cal organization, Ku-Klux or otherwise, that was inimical to the laws of tho Lm- ted States or of tho State. He testified, however, that he waa a member of a recent organization, having for its object fhe good of the country; bnt refused to reveal ita title or practical pur poses. The refusal being deemed con tempt by the court and grand jury, Sean- lau is, by order of Judge Hill of the Fed eral Court, consigned to jail without the beuelit of bail till the meeting of the court, on tbe first Monday iu November. London, September 6.—It i« reported that the Marquis of Lorn will bo ap pointed Governor-General of India, and Maiqnil Lansdowne, Lord Lieutenant of Ireland. Queen Victoria is still ill and unable to attend divine service. Olio case of cholera has appeared in Liverpool. Mount VcfiuviuH has commenced to eject Java. An explosion occurred this morning in a coal mine near Wigan, near Lancashire. Some fifty persons were in tho seam of tho mine at tho time of tho catastrophe and it is feared that oil of them bavo been suffocated by tho foul air. Parties have been sent down to ascertain their condi tion. The men buried«alive are still in the miuc and, it is thought, have all per ished. The neighborhood of £tho disaster is thronged with the relatives and acquain tances of those who are supposed to be victims aud the scenes arc of the most heart-rending description. The details of the harrowing event are awaited with anxiety. The Republican Committee has issued a programme which embraces the appli cation of a federation to the kingdom; an abolition of tithes and privileges; the suppression of monopolies; the nbolition of standing armies; compulsory educa tion; p State provision for luborers able to work; susteuence for laborers who are incapacitated; the nationalization of labor, popular legislation, and a diffusion of Republicanism. The proprietors in Newcastle are send ing in all directions for workmen to take the place of tho strikers. The workmen are arming. Some factories are able to resume work. Nearly 4,000 workmen have left. The remains of Renforth, the boatman, have arrived. Thousands followed the coffin to the home of tho widow. The funeral will take place Sunday. The number killed by the Wigan ex plosion is 69. The scenes around tbe mouth of the mine are heartrending.
