Recause we think that the Radical party hus betrayed the coun try and is plunging it deeper and deeper into the abyss of ruin;because we lielieve the New Departure, if successful, will not fully rodocm the country, but will only retard its fstnl progress, and because a di vision of the Democracy will remove the only obstacle to Radical triumph and blot oot tho last hopo of restoring the Gov ernment to a constitutional basis, indeed we may say, the the last hope of repub lican government, until it is regained through the arbitration of the sword. If these views be correct, then it fol lows that tho Democracy should scorn a compromise and wage u aggressive war fare, delivering its nssuulU directly against the fraudulent amendments, those monstrous usurpators which undermine the very foundations of our system of government-; for thou, if successful, the victory would ho substantial and decisive, and establish for all time to como the paramount authority of the Constitution. This wo firmly believe can be accom plished if the Democracy will hold to gether and act in concert.
