A new telegraph office lias been opened
at Fleming (No. 2), on the Atlantic and

world.
There was a difficulty between two col

Joe Coburn, the great pugilist, who is
to soon fight a champion match with Jim

Southern and Western cities, giving

What possible chance could Cobum

Cobum will avoid Savauuah for fear of
being “licked.”
Another Confederate Soldier Wend
ing ms wat Homeward.—An ex-Confed
erate soldier, luunedWm. Johnston, lame,
toot-eore and weary, arrived in thia place
on Friday last from Charlotte, North
Carolina Tho history of this unfortu
nate man, from the time he enlisted in
the Confederate States army until bis
arrival in Dalton, ia deeply interesting.
He is a native of Southwest Texas, and
early in the spring of 1861 entered the
Southern army by joining the Texas
Bangers, which celebrated oompany w as
commanded by the gallant Capt Terry.
He hod two brothers in the same compa
ny, both of whom were killed, one at
PerrrviUe, Ky., the other at Murfrees
boro’, Tenn. The subject of this notice
was himself dangerously wounded at
Lincotnton, N. C., by Stoneman’s com
mand, which made him a cripple for life.
He roeeired four gun-shot wounds snd
two ugiy-looking sabre cate. One of the
btiUx|pessed into his thigh, crushing the
bone, and through his body, coming
out about au inch to the left of
his spine. Another struck bis thigh
near the knee, and rangod along the
bone about ten inches. The other
two shots, which were also in the
legs, were so slight as to trouble him but
little. Thesuhre cut in bis face, between
his eyes, just above the bridge of the
nose, fractured the skull. The other cut
wna in tbe shoulder, and peuetratod the
right breast. A battle-scarred veteran
truly.
In this condition he was taken to a
railroad atation, thouco on rail to Rich
mond, Ya., where lie remained in the
hospital until May lost He was uual >le
to walk three years and six months of the
time.
Lust full Mr. Johnston had so far re
covered from his many and terrible
wonnds as to be able to nobble about on
crutchos, and ho determined to start for
his homo in Texas, which ho hail not
seen for ten long, weary years; but the
weather being cold, he was induced by
the surgeon of tbe hospital to wait until
spring. Ho, on tho first of May, with
the surgeon's certificate in his pocket,
which ho was told would carry him
through to Texas, and a ten dollar bill
given him by the surgeon, he took pas
sage on the cars for his Western home.
He, however, soon found that the cer
tificate was of no benefit—that he could
ride only so long as he paid- and when
ho reached Charlotte, N. C., ho was out
of money. Hero ho made an effort to
get transportation, in which ho failed,
when he determined to foot it through to
Texas on his crutches; and ho arrived
near this place, os before stated, on Fri
day night last, after liaving been more
than four months on the way, not resting
u day during the trip, hut taking tho
weather as it come.
When he turned his hack upou the
