the Pennsylvania Democracy has the in
terpretation given to it by the address of
tho Executive Committee, we shall ad
hero to onr belief in tliat interpretation

struction, but against it. Wo shall give
onr friends the Tieneflt of all doubts. We
shall take them by w hat they say iu their
hist explanation of their position, and not
fight them on a construction of their

prove, when by ao doing we hurt their
prospects. We prefer tu believe well of
oar allies, and are certainly going to do
so, when, as in the case of the Pennsyl
vania Executive address, they give us the
grounds for doing so.
This is the friendly course. Let us do

growing in circulation, North as well as
South. We are mncli gratified to know
that the health oi this eminent states
man is so far improved as to enable him
to take charge at the editorial depart
ment of this paper. In our op/nion there
is no other sphere of action in which Mr.
Stephens con be of each service to the
Dsumcmtio party as the one he has
chosen. Oar party is in sore need of
lenders and teachers, and we know of no
one so well qualified to discharge this
duty, as he is a man of large experience
in public affairs, of sdmirable mental
culture, and thoroughly conversant with
all the machinery of our Federal Repub
lican form of government, lie ia eminent
ly fitted to conduct a sound, doctrinal
journal, and assist in keeping the old
Democ ratic ship from breaking to pieces
