New York, September 30.—The pri mary elections nt Tammany passed off quietly. Chief Justiee Chase is here cn route to Providence. At a meeting of the Italians it was pro posed to request the Italian Government to recall Consul General F. D. Lneca. The employees of the city presented themselves for monthly pay, bat found no money. Capt W. 0. Lellor, of the steamship Britannia, from Glasgow, was lost over board in exerting himself to save a lady passenger while the ship was giving a heavy lnrch, and was drowned. All efforts to save him proved unsuooessfal. George O. Evans, charged with embez zling funds, in Pennsylvania, was brought before Judge McCann, to day, on a writ of habeas corpus. Tho decision was re served. There was a wholesale discharge of mechanics from tho construction depart ment of tho Navy Yard to-day. Dr. Davis, of Brookln, on indicted ab ortionist, has been imprisoned. Tho mass meeting of Park laborers, announc ed to take place this evening, proved a fizzle. No moro than a couple dozen men attended. Platoons of police were in attendance, but as their services were not required, they left early. Judge Barnard has issued an order to compel the senior mombers of tho firm of Ingersoll A Co. to appear to be exam ined for the purpose of eliciting testimony on which to base a complaint, or com plaints, in one or moro suits that have been instituted against some of tho city officials. Rochester, September 30.—George II. Munford, a prominent citizen of this place, and for many yoars officially con nected with tho Western Union Tele graph Company, died suddenly this even ing of appolexy. Ho was attending to business this morning. The Republican savs: “Tho President of tho Board of Health informs us that there is but ono caso af yellow fever un der treatment in tho city. There 1ms been no new caso reported for three days, and no death for six days.” A private dispatch from Pensacola says vessels from New Orleaus and Mobile will be quarantined tbero. Richmond, October 1.—A 'special dis patch to the Enquirer Bays a riot occurred this evening in Danville from an attempt on the part of a mob of negroes to res cue a negro from arrest. After futile ef forts on the part of the Mayor, ’to dis perse the mob, tho military was called out, and the riot act read twice. Stores being closed, the military was ordered to charge bayonets, and ono of tho moat turbulent rioters was bayoneted. A po liceman was shot by some unknown per son. Great excitement prevails. The stores were closed, and the people order ed to their homes. Morris has been re-elected Mayor of Nashville. Isaac Smith, a citizen who had visited Natchez, died here yesterday of yellow fever. Chicago, October 1.—Tho Burlington warehouse, on immense brick building, between the Burlington and Quincy Rail road and Sixteenth street, was burned last night. Nearly two hundred firm! hod goods stored in the wurehousc, tho valuo of which was *800,000. A port of the building, used as a bonded ware house, containing $3,000,000 worth of goods, escaped by reason of a large tiro wall. There is an aggregate insurance on tho goods destroyed amounting to *700,000. Tho loss of tho building is *50,000. Ono person was burned to deuth and, it is fearod, threo others perished.
