Bsfl, A fall Demi ratio Congressional delegation from Texas ia not a bod legend for the Democracy—Bourbon at that ■&. This is the aaventy-seventh auni Ternary of the day when “Freedom shrieked os Koeciasko fell.” An exchange says "Senator Harlan has a financial policy of his own.” That s*ema-to ba^e case with ait the Itadical oCce-bolddta as, lh% at get richaoon al tar getting into office. w*c Nashville Banner looks "nat ty” in its new drees, which vastly im proves its appearance; but alas! all that beanty is wasted upon the “New Depar ture." It is very sad. It has been demonstrated beyond a question that eundurango will arrest canoer. Foot persons who tested the remedy are wo longer troubled with the disease. They are dead. H*®» ,f Wss»deJl Phillips thinks Butler made a great mistake in his last speech at Wcsoeeter." OsF Tammany sent its delegates to Rochester to give the Democratic Con vention a wigwaming; bat, for its pains, got a wig-warming from the Democracy that poured into tho ears of the Dele gates an honast condemnation of tho cor ruptions of the “ring.” 1ML- The Pensacola Mail breaks ont with this fine rhapsody: “.‘as the hart panteth after the water-brooks,' so long- eth the people of Florida for an unde filed administration of State allairs.” Bat the Reed still flourishes along the water- hroeks obstructing the passage thereto. teg-The people of Tozk county. Sooth Carolina, appear to have resolved to “lift the pressure” that the Badicala have been bringing to bear upon them. At a late term at the Circuit Court, aocording to the Enquirer, the subject which chiefly engrossed the attention of the grand jnry was the investigation of the out rages alleged to have been perpetrated in that county, aa well as those which are known to have occurred. At least eight days of their session were unremittingly devoted to this matter. Upon the testi mony elicited some few persons have been presented for indictment, in pursu ance of which tbo following order was made “It ia ordered that .the clerk of the court do issuo bench warrants for the arrest of ail parties charged therein with the commission of crime and misdemea nors, and also for the arrest of all wit nesses named thorein, and that said clerk do bind over said witnesses to ap pear at the next term of this court; that John Plunket was to badly injured, Baturday.morning, by the falling of a sea CUM, at the Macon Fair-Gronod, that his recovery is despaired of. Editors Sun : The rain, commencing lidro last Monday evening, was continu ous and heavy for the space of twenty- six hours, accompanied with very high winds. Tho damage done to vessels at sea, contending with the entire force of the elements, most have been groat, although these marine disasters have not yet been fnlly reported. Parts of this city were entirely anbmergod, but the draining machines were plied with vigor and success, and the overflowed portion is rapidly returning, under the influence of an ardent sun and refreshing breezes, to. its normal condition. The rushing tide of business of all sorts, slackened and nearly suspended for a day, is now sweeping forward with tho force oud ra pidity of “the tidal wave.” By the way, Dr. Borns' lecture on that ever-inspiring theme, which ho now en title! “a Hoax,” is to come off this even ing. Pcoplo do not willingly pay a dollar to be hoaxed, but the Doctor is prepared to impart dignity and attrac tion to hia subject by considering the “Hoax,” be says, in “its scientific rela tions." What those relations are is cer tainly a great mystery, and the exposi tion will be likely to attract hearers. Mrs. Laura 8. Webb, a Louisiana authoress, a sketch of whose L'fe appears in “Southland Writers,” ia to have a con cert given for her benefit, next Monday evening, by the Professors of tho New Orleans Conservatory of Music. She is about to embark again ia the field of au thorship, and proposes publishing a work entitled “Resources of Southwestern Lou isiana,” and this concert is given by our ublic-nririted musical professors, to aid er in the prosecution of her enterprise, It does them muoh credit, and the exam pie may well be followed in other cities, with a view to assist meritorious authors, particularly females, who are desirous of publishing their works, bat who, in these hard times, have not the means of dot Mrs. Webb has already acquir considerable celebrity by her beautiful, poetical tribute to the memory of that great captain of oar age and country, Robert E. Lee. She has, by her inspir ing verses, touched the heart of the South, if not of all sections of our common land, and by the South, at least, she ought to be encouraged—and she will be. Oar city government has, at length, after the deliberations of a quarter of a century, undertaken tho tusk of drain ing New Orleans in earnest. The swamp onvironing the city is to bo ditched and drained, aud u shortly to loso tho character, in which there is less of romnnee than danger, of a malarious proximity. Tho work is already begun, and is progressing with a rapidity which does credit to tho energy of our city fa thers, or rather of that of tho skilful and resolute engineers who are engaged in tho enterprise. Editors Daily Sun: I write to inform yonr readers that the “Annual Putnam County Fair" will oommence next Wednesday, the 11th. Largo prepara tions have been mode by tlfc Directory to make this Fair moro successful ami entertaining than any former one. A great many have expressed their determ ination to be present on the approaching occasion. A splendid and magnificent assortment of premiums lias been selec ted, and will be awarded to tfae successful competitors. One of tbo principal at tractions at tbc Fair will be a great ar ray of femalo beauty. In this respect, Eatonton is “ahead’’ of any town iu tho State. At the last Fair, u premium was give' to the moat beautiful young lady. Another important feature will ne the struggle between “hone jookies,” ss large premiums will bo awarded to the fastest trotters. Various other things will be ex hibited, such as all kinds of grain, all sorts of stock, agricultural implements, "fancy notions" of every description; and in a word, everything that is generally seen at Fairs, will be exhibited at tho Putnam County Fair Ground* nuxt weak. With a promise to give you another let ter daring the progress of tho Fair, I remain yours truly, Putnam County. B. F. MOORE, gt-lm PRINCIPAL. OITY FLOURING MILLS, jtTIsJiJTToi, GEORG 1,1.
