of its losses, aggregating $5,1)00,000.
That the Commerce Company, Albany,
with a loss of $450,000, has been placed
in the hands of a receiver, is not .tho
fact. It is in an almost perfect condition.
The Nicholson pavement for miles on
the North side, is uninjured. Evidence
accumulates that the loss of life was
greater than has been estimated.

Chicago, October 13.—Eight elevators

Chicago, October 1$.—A dispatch from
Green Bsy, Wisconsin, states that a
steamer has just arrived from the burn
ing, and reporta that 325 bodies were
burned at Pisbtego last night, and as
many more are still missing. Seventy-
five persons were burned to death at
Little Sturgeon Bay. The suffering
throughout tho North 1b ternbla
The fire in Manister destroyed twenty-
five buildings, six of which were mills,
together with all tho shipping at the
docks—loss $1,300,000.
Further advices from Grom Bay state
that 150 men wore burned to death in a
large baru where they had sought refuge.
Hundred* of people have been driven
into the rivers and drowned.

The barometer rose very rapidly on
Thursday night at all States east of the
Mississippi river, with the highest pres
sure central in Maryland. Ine latter
now extends from Cape Haiteraa to
Cape Cod. An area of low barometer
apparently exists north and West of
Iowa, but reports have been received
from Lake Superior that the temperature
bat fallcD, but again risen in the Ohio
Valley, and is qnite low in Kansas and
Nebraska, with northerly winds. Nor
therly winds with threatening weather is
reported from Florida; southerly wimhi
with clouds and light raina from Arkan
sas to Iowa.
