THE DAILY SUN, Thursday Momenta October 19. Mr AVw Adterliivumb on Firvt Page ; Loail and Dusett on Fourth Page. SUN-STKOK KS. Mrs. White — Autauga county, Alabama—Kerosene Lamp. 1A-Hon. J. W..H. Underwood, of Borne, Ga., is among the' late arrivals in Washington City. IA>The wild Fenian, O’Neill, has had an examination before a United States Commissioner, and was released on the ground that the Court had no jurisdiction in the case—the offense having been committed in Canada. The testimony of Canadian witnesses, who saw the vaders cross the line, was rejected. JW Ur. Bard hits the nail right on the head tor onoe. He says: “When Mr. Stephens speaks of the genuine Northern Democracy, he doubtless means the ‘Copperheads.’" Yes, that is exact ly whom he means by “the genuine Northern Democracy"—those eighteen hundred thousand, who never bowed the knee to the Baal of Radicalism in any shape or form. The papers in the South that have been agitating against the “new depar tore,” profess to believe that the results of the late Northern elections, and what they call the refusal of the New York Democrats to “depart,” have killed the movement Very well. And now good policy- inseparable from common sense—requires that they should “dry up.”—Columbus (Ga.) Enquirer. “Common sense,” which usually ad vises “good policy,” requires that those editors should "dry up" who attempted so fatally to mislead the people. J9*Tbe Memphis Avalanche sees in the recent elections in Ohio and Pennsyl vania the determination of the people of the Northern States to make a finality of the constitutional amendments, as affirm ing the results of the war, so decisively expressed, and with the aid of Demo cratic votes, that even The Atlanta Son ought to see its folly and abandon it— Nashville Banner. Being unable to see things through the clouded “spees" used by the Mem phis Avalanche and the Nashville Banner, The Sun, as yet bos nothing to abandon. Looking through its own old-fashioned time-honored, storm-tried and well proven Democratic glasses The Sun is able to see enough to attribute the re sult of the elections in Ohio and Penn sylvania to the dangelbus, foolish and unnecessary question of the “New DeJ parture” sprung within the Democratic party, at a most inopportune tone, and supported by the Memphis Appeal and the Nashville Banner, to the great detri ment of the Democratic party. )A- The Presidential ipse dixit come in duo time, and several of the counties of South Carolina are under martial law. The people of those counties do not know what is in store for them. They are liable to arrest at any time and with out any definite charge against them. The whim of a Radical official is all the exonse that is necessary for dragging a man from his home, and throwing him into a prison with common felons. And for such outrages there is no redrese. Law is made subordinate to the power of the sword. The door of the temple of justice is closed. The people have to suffer and endure, and be as patient as they can. There is no redress, and can be none until a return to sense shows the American people how rapidly their liberties are departing. The North can look quietly on and see these things done in South Carolina; but the people will learn that the principle which pur poses to subject South Carolina, is a principle which may subvert the liberties of the people of Massachusetts, or Ohio. This imperial ukase, from the head cen ter of centralism, is a direct and antici pated result of Congressional legislation, which the New Departurists “accept” as final, and towhioh they are willing to “crook the pregnant hinges of the knee,” and lift up no voice in rebuke or con demnation. GEORGIA MATTERS. A new iron steamer has been put upon the Savannah river, to ply between Au gusta and Savannah. Augusta admits the orphans free to its Fair. Uabe Moirell, an Augusta “previous," whipped his wife Sunday, just in fun, hard enough to break her arm. Mr. J. A. Christian, represents Au gusta, in the National Folioe Convention at St. Louis. Augusta policemen are to bo provided with water-proofs. The tnrf men, who will attend the Ma con Fair, will have a grand “meeting" when the fair is over. Fourteen horses havo been entered already. Henry Hyde shot and killed John Green, in Columbus, Sunday afternoon- whisky. Rev. 8. S. Harris has resigned the pas torate of the Columbus Episcopal Church, Monroe oounty has yielded its last wildest. Tbs Mason Citisen wants good oomposi- tors who don’t belong to the Union. Sumter county negro camp-meetings have rendered chickens -very scarce. Pi ous negroes I The United States District Court meets ia Savannah next Monday. The .Savannah Advertiser says: The new telegraph company, though it has been in operation but a tew days, is al ready doing a fino business, and receiv ing encouraging support from our mer chants. The Groman opera troupe will not visit Savannah next month, consequent ly Harris has ceased cultivating his fine baritone voice. Estill heard him trying to sing the other day, and called up stairs to know who had knocked the bung oat of tbat^beer barrel. Augusta tournaments doriug her fair.
