The F*ir is a grand success.— The attendance ia hourly increasing, and it isBufe to predict that fifteen thousand persona will boon the grounds to-mo~row. The day has been fine, and the exhibition and grounds presented n beautiful pio- ture. Floral Hall is full, and tbe display is beyond description. The Exhibition Hall 1* well nigh fnll, tad makes a good show. The Machinery Exhibition ia extensive and snperb. The show of horses, for number and quality, ia tbe best ever seen in tho South, and is exciting intense interest. President Colquitt assures me that the exhibition, in nearly all departments, is a success, and in many important respects far exceeds any Fair ever held in the State. X System and order prevails everywhere, and exhibitors and visitors are pleased with everything. The accommodations, conveniences, comfort, facilities, amusements and enter tainments are fully up to tho highest ex pectations and altogether satisfactory. Weston walks at 4 o’clock to morrow evening; tbe balloon ascension takes place at 5, and pyrotechnics at 81. Trotting and running ugainst time, and tests of machinery, will fill the day. Weston performs the wonderful fest of walking fifty miles in ten hours on Thurs- GEORGIA 4m>iwctag IWi. Acocsta, October 24. —The annual fair of the Cotton States Association opens ou the 81st of October. Sixteen thou sand dollars is offered in premiums. All the railroads and the Charleston and Savannah steamships from New York and Philadelphia issue excursion tickets (or 825 a round trip, which are good until the first of December. The city is pre pared to accommodate 20,000 visitors— Fine racing stock ia already entered for the track premiums. The fair will be largely attended. Columbus, Oot. 24.—The second aSi uual fair of Muscogee county commences hero on the 31st, and promise* to be a •acoea*. Entries in all department* arc very large and varied. The Hank of Montreal has decided to establish a branch iu this city as soon as a vault can bo built. The Journal appeared this evening in anew dreas. Many Chicago banks in the Houth Di vision aro establishing branches in the West Division. Tho two political parties iu this eity and oouuty, in view of tho present con dition of affairs, growing out of tho fire, are trying to unite upon a union ticket for oity and county officers, to he voted for two weeks houcc—each having a share in the municipal offices. Washington, October 24.—Tho ques tion of tho Hornet, |whioh is blockaded by a Spanish fleet in a Haytien port, was considered in a cabinet meeting to-day. The Government holds that, bearing the American flag, and being under bonds to this Government, entitles the Hornet to tho freedom of neutral waters. A dip lomatic correspondence, relative to this matter, has made some progress, and an early lcleaso of the vessel is expected.. Tho Star says a strong effort is being made to effect tho removal of CoL T. P. Robb, Collector of Customs at Savannah, and appoint Col. James Atkins in his place. Tho latter, it is said, is backed bv Senator Hill, and the Congressional del egation from Georgia. Robb’s friends, however, claim that he will not be re moved. Delano will be gone until Friday. It is raining steadily, and the wires are working slowly. Washington, October 24.—There was a Cabinet meeting to-day. Akermau and Boutwell were absent.
