habeas corpus has been suspended, re
port that at least one hundred arrests
have been made, and tbo parties lodged
in the county jail. Numbers are leav
ing. The oounty is being deserted.

rous precautions against the Interna
tionalists, their principles having no hold
upon the Italian people.

following canon be adopted and enacted.
The elevation of the elements in the holy
communion, in such manner as to expose
them to the view of tho fpeople, as ob
jects to-arda which adoration is to bo
made in, or after the prayer of consccra
tiou, or iu the act of administering them,
or in carrying them to, or from tho com
municants, and any gesture, posture, or
sot implying such adoration, and
any ceremony not prcscrilied as parts of
the order of the administration of the
Lord’s supper, or holy communion, iu
the book of common prayer, and tho cel
ebration or reception of the holy com
munion, by any bishop or priest, when
no person receives with him; likewise the
use, at any administration of the holy-
communion, of any hymns, prayers, col
lects, apostles, or worships other than
those appointed in tho authorised formu
laries of tho Church or under soction

Tho following was adopted c'most
unauimonslyin the lower House:
Resolved, The house of Bishops con
curring, that this committee hereby ex
press its decided condemnation of all
ceremonies, observances, and practices
which aro fitted to express a doctrine
foreign to that sot forth iu tho author
ized standards of this Church.
Resolved, That in tho judgment of
this house, the paternrl council and ad
vices, of our Right Rev. fathers, the
Bishops of tho church, is deemed suf-
licieut at this timo to secure the sup
prei sion of all that is irregular aud un
seemly, cud to promote greater uniform
ity in conducting tho publio worship of
the Church, and iu tho administration
of the hoiy sacraments.

Nsiv York, October 26.—At a mass
moetiug of tho Republicans, held ut
Cooper Institute, last night, to ratify the
State ticket, Horaco Greeley presided
and mado a few brief remarks, urging
harmony amoug the party. Letters
were read from Senators Conkliug and
Fenton, expressivo of regret at their ab
sence, aud expressing their hope for the
suocess of tho Republican party iu the
State.
Tlio principal speaker of the evening
was Wm. M. Evarts, who denounced tho
corruption of tho city government,
which, he said, if it oould not lie reme
died by ballots, would have to be by bay-
onets.
Judge Herpont, Marshall, Sharp and
Clmse addressed the meeting.
Ann any, October 26.—Judge Leonard,
of the Supreme Court, has ordered the
arrest of Wm. M. Tweed.

designed to prevent the alienation of
Church property, by those not in accord
with the doctrine and discipline of the
Protestant Episcopal Church, has been

Tho Bishops adopted a canon forbid

The Treasurer anuounces his readiness
to supply small notes upon application.
Hon. Wm. B. Stokes, Supervisor of
Internal Revenue for Tennessee, was ar
rested here to-day, charged with defraud
ing the Government to tho amount of
$00,000. He waived a preliminary exam
ination and give bail in the sum of
$15,000 for his appearance before the
criminal court now iu session.
Victor G. Powell, a clerk in the second
auditor’s office, was also arrested and
commited to jail,charged.with defrauding
the Government out of $10,000.
The Board of Supervising Inspectors
have decided that cotton carried in torn
bales or bags, shall not be considered
loose cotton, and hay carried for feeding
stock on board shall not bo con-
sir 'rod loose hay. They decided against
carrying coal oil on passenger steamers.
Tho petition from Utah, fifty feet long
signed by women, is iu favor of poly
gamy, notagainst, as heretofore stated.
The Patriot concludes a paragraph rc-
gurdiug the Savannah Custom House and
Collector Robb as follows:
‘Attorney General Akcrman now de
mands his removal, in which lie is sup
ported by tho entiro Georgia Cougri i-
sionfll delegation. Robb is given till
the 1st of November to resign, when his
successor will be appointed.”
