The bill against Tweed, Garvey, Inger- soll, aud Woodward, nsked judgment for over $600,000. to have been in collusion with their pur chasers, aud the poorest kinds of cotton were shown us samples of the entire lot held by the Government, the bidders getting it by this arrangement, at the low nrieo of twenty-nine cents j>er pound, and subsequently selling it at the market price, thereby clearing the differ ence. Tho claimants, however, refuse to base their claims at lower figures than the market value at the time of salo, and it is feared the Government will, in re funding tho money, be a considerable loser, especially now, that tho British claims stand a chance beforo the mixed commission of being allowed some com peusatiou for their losses.
